Out of curiosity, did you lose your Health data too? It seems like you would lose that as well, since it does not link to an iCloud data store.

Yes the Health data went too. Considering a factory reset and new phone is a cure-all problem to a lot of phone drama, don't expect all this health and activity data to last forever unless they work out some secure backup (with consent?) feature.

Have you tried to import when you haven't also tracked with the Watch's Workout app? I tried the iOS 9 beta for a day, but it was buggy for me. So I never got a chance to check out the improvements in the Activity app. Hoping to try again with the next public beta.
Just found a day that I forgot to start my :apple:Watch for an Activity. Garmin via the RunGap App counted Exercise time and Move calories to my Rings/totals.

Not sure how it determines (or if) Active calories from Resting (BMR) calories.

He set it up as a new phone. This is one of Apple's recommended actions when the phone is having issues (often battery), and the support & Geeks do not know why. They just tell you to wipe it out and not restore from backup.
Well Apple does have a good reason as to why. They say to set up as new so if the issue is stuck within the backup the issue won't be carried over.

It does calculate Active calories from Resting (BMR) calories. I guess it just uses Apple's algorithms to figure this. The totals are broken out on the screen.

Oddly this is a weight training workout that was manually entered into Garmin Connect. So not sure where Apple is getting my HR from but it does look plausible. I usually run Workout as Other for weight training but missed stating it this day (July 6).

EDIT: Apple is mistaken on calories. 320 kcal is the Garmin total so Apple is adding BMR calories to this total. Apple should know better. Almost everyone else uses total calories for all calculations and not just Active calories.

That's encouraging and exactly what I'm looking for. Tempted to give iOS 9 another go...

This is OT, but this is one of my big annoyances with the way that Health, Activity, & Workout present data. When I am exercising and balancing that with diet, the only thing I care about is total daily calories. I do not care which component is rest versus activity. And, I want that number top-of-page. I am curious about what the exercise component might be, but that would be second- or third-level interest to me.

Eventually I will write a big feedback summary to Apple, but I am not that motivated yet. (I am not convinced that they would even look at it.) The more I use this stuff, the more disappointed I get-- it is as if Apple did their whole Health/Workout/Activity/HR design without every asking a fitness or activity person what they need in a device and supporting apps.

Good for you man... no one cares.. at all.

Pat yourself on the back but don't make a big deal comparing your run to a dudes walk on the freaking beach. No one is impressed.

'Normal' walking speed is about 3.1MPH which is slow for a young health person (which you are if I remember correctly). You were walking at ½ that speed. It's just had to see how you could walk for that long at such a slow and leisurely of a pace. Were you purposely delaying between steps?:D

To think I was self conscious about posting my (a little below average for me, but VERY crowded race) Peachtree 10K time (official time 47:58).o_O Which was about the same time you posted for 1.3 miles.

This is pretty neat! Definitely a step in the right direction with the activity/workout apps - even if I am someone who is satisfied with the current version (in that, for what activity/workout I do, Apple's current features suffice- tho I understand why certain people are not).

I'm sorry if this has been address, tho I don't think anyone asked yet, but can you adjust the "splits" settings for how it breaks it down? Or is the split always set for a mile?

Doesn't look like there's any setting to split it up differently.

I sort of figured that would be the case, especially since it is a newly added feature, one standard setting seems to make sense for Apple to use- even more so with it being in a Beta version, tho I do doubt it will change for the official release.

So I bit the bullet and installed today's iOS 9 beta 4. Like you, I was able to send this morning's run to the Activity app via RunGap. Thanks for that tip!

Unfortunately, the Calorie and Exercise rings weren't updated to reflect this workout. (Nor was the Stand ring, but I didn't expect that to happen.) Did you do anything special to get your to update? I've quit and restarted the app but nothing.

Sorry, at the time I just did a quick look and was mistaken about it adding the data. The 6th is on Monday and I usually run 6 miles on Monday after weight training. However on the 6th I ran 8 miles (2 extra to make up for my short Saturday [Peachtree] run) ) and that accounted for the 'extra' calories I thought was seeing.

We may have to wait until the GM and/or aWatch 2.0 GM for the data to be incorporated.

Let's hope they make that improvement. I'd like all of my activity incorporated into the Activity app – whether I'm wearing my Watch or Garmin – though, to be honest, once the novelty of the activity rings wore off it became less of an issue.

1.6MPH walking????? How is that possible????

Too fast or too slow?

I just looked and whenever I'm walking for exercise I typically do 15-16 minute miles... which puts me at about 4 MPH. My fastest walking on a treadmill is about a 12 minute mile (any faster than that and I have to run).

Walking my dog with my wife is closer to 25 minute miles... A bit faster than what he reported.

So what's the deal? Do you think it's not possible someone to walk that SLOWLY?

EDIT: never mind. Just saw that that's exactly what you were wondering: how could he walk so slowly. 1.6 MPH sounds like a nice leisurely stroll on the beach to me :)
