Well if it does come out this summer and there is a massive failure launch again, I guess I'll be happy when my contract expires in Nov for my 1Gen iPhone because the problems should be sorted out by then. Haha. I don't understand why people have to have it NOW NOW NOW! I waited 3days after the release of the 2.0 software to get it just because I felt lazy and didn't really care to have it NOW!

People need to cool their jets. Yeah, so what you have the coolest newest gadget right away, I'll get mine soon enough. And you know what? I won't have the bugs and most of the problems some releases have right away. :p That and it's not like my phone is so obsolete it doesn't do what I want it to do. That's why I stuck with the 1Gen iPhone. It does the job I want it to do and it does it well.

EDIT: Announced / showed off in early/mid-June. Released late-June/early-July after tons of pre-orders. My guess around 2.2million pre-orders worldwide maybe. Haha, I'll laugh if I'm right. 3.0 released the same time as the new iPhone. Reason, to make people wait.

It will still launch the same day at the 3rd gen iPhone. If people get the new software early, they may lose the urge to buy the new iPhone. If they tease us with the new software all summer until July, then we'll want that new phone to use with the new software.

We'll see the new iPhone in June at WWDC with the release date for the iPhone and 3.0 announced that day. They will launch simultaneously. Apple is getting easier to predict. It will not be available the same day as WWDC.

Summer means that it just turned spring so I wouldnt get excited until june, and id bet it comes out in july like 2.0 and the 3g

Just a thought, but would it be good to release 3.0 a day or a few days earlier (maybe a week) before the new iphone comes out. I know the new iphone will already be loaded with the 3.0 software, but if people want to sync their new iphone with itunes, buy new apps, etc, won't it lag the server with all that going on and older iphones being updated from 2.2.1 to 3.0? I'm just thinking it might be a good thing to stagger the demand on the itunes store if they release 3.0 sooner than the iphone.

Plus it may help boost says of the new iphone if people see 3.0 on someone's iphone before the new one is released. Then again I'm not in college for marketing, and this is just my thought.

This would be nice...but what about everyone out there who isn't in tune with apple upcoming news? There would be lots of angry people who bought an iphone because of a new software update only to find out that a new version came out 1 week later with a revamped hardware and nicer screen resolution. (not even mentioning the other stuff)

Well my thinking was if they saw the new version, say via a friend or the Apple store, that their friend or the store would say that a new phone is coming out in a week or 3 days, or whenever. I know it isn't very likely for the Apple store to tell someone to wait a week to buy something in the interest of sales, but if your not informed on something, in my opinion, it's your fault. I'm sure last year people bought a new iphone 2G a week before WWDC or after that date because they didn't know a new iphone was coming out. My thinking is if someone isn't up to date with Apple news I doubt they will know about a new phone or firmware.
