Well, my username was created from an I.T. TAFE assignment that I had to create a Google Site, this obviously meant that I had to come up with a good name for the site. I eventually came up with Overclocked Geekazoid as I'm quite a geek it kinda just fitted. But after that assignment was completed I decided to drop the Overclocked part and decided to use the Geekazoid part for my username for various sites and forums. So, thats pretty much my username explained, I would love to hear about yours.

Geek

EDIT: I see that a similar thread has been created as my post was moved, sorry staff, my bad!

As a young child I used to play in a sandbox with my friends with little green army guys. We would have large epic "wars" that would last days. Each of us was the General of our respective armies and commanded them into battle against the other. That was one of our favorite summer pastimes growing up before we started to get older and more sophisticated with our entertainment, such as with the original Nintendo becoming a new and popular thing.

Since I'm not much of a creative type, SandboxGeneral was all I could come up with as an online moniker to use. The name has absolutely nothing to do with my service in the U.S. Marines, especially since I was never a real General - or even remotely close to being one.

My main hobby is collecting and repairing American pocket watches.

Probably one of the better known grades of railroad watch was the Illinois Bunn Special. It had a strong enough following that when the Illinois watch company was bought out in 1927, the buyer(competitor Hamilton Watch Company) kept the Bunn Special name alive a long time afterwards.

I actually have never been a big collector of Bunn Specials(some collectors have gone nuts over all the 16 size variants-the most common one is worth about $200 now, and one particular variant reach a high of $40,000 a few years back), although I do collect Illinois watches and like the larger, less popular 18 size Bunn Specials. Thus, my avatar is a picture from the barrel bridge of an 18 size Bunn Special.

I chose the name for here because it's recognizable to other watch collectors. Since I primarily collect the 18 size versions, I was tempted to use Ilikebigbunns but thought that might give the wrong impression :)

I like it! :) (I was also a "Sandbox soldier" type of guy with Airfix collection of different armies).

In 1994, I went to sign up for a web forum, and chose "samiam" as a username. It was taken. I thought, "Well, I was samiam...now what will I be?" And "samiwas" was born. People loved it, so it stuck. I still get giggles periodically when I tell it to people.

Well, haha, that's quite a story. Now you can just call yourself the"MacRumours General" (yes, I can afford the 'U' :p).

Hmm...it's kinda interesting that I started up a similar thread to this (not realising that one had already been created) and then my thread gets merged with this one which ultimately starts this thread up again, after two years of inactivity. Noice!

Mine is honestly the first one that came to my head.

What does your username mean, or why did you choose it?

Award-winning SciFi author Larry Niven created the 'Hindmost' character in his Ringworld' novel and it's sequels. Hard to believe it's been 45 years since I first read Ringworld when I was a younger and even more foolish person.

firedept comes from being in the Fire & Medical Services for 10 years. I specialized in confined spaces and was a pump operator. Have left the Fire Services but still a part-time EMT, which I truly enjoy doing. Would have loved to stayed a firefighter but my full-time career allows for a better retirement.

Mine is very peculiar actually.
A lot of people think that I adopted mine after many celebrities, such as J-Lo and so on.
In all honesty I have been Mona since I was a baby, so all of my life.

If my Mom would've gotten her way, I would've been named Lisa after the Apple Computer.
Both my parents got to meet Jobs and Woz during the Homebrew Computer Club in which they unveiled the first Apple computer, consequentially making them part of the first generation of Apple Fanbois, so instead the nickname Lisa was born during My Mom's pregnancy years later but then My Dad after long argument with my Mom after I was born, decided I was a Linda instead since my doctor had reiterated to my parents that that night in the baby ward I was the prettiest baby in the entire hospital.
I still hang out with Woz though. That didn't change at least.

I'm of Scots-Irish, German, Italian, Spaniard, and French descent.
Very confusing alright? Even more confusing with all the mixed names but what it's clear about me is, I'm a mutt. I speak almost every language I'm a descendant of in exception of 2 but in addition to the 4 I speak, I understand 3 others.

Part of being born and growing up in a polyglot home where your parents are Diplomats.
But. On to the Mona part.
My Dad started calling me Mona after I was born, whereas my Mom till this day calls me Lisa.
Mona in Castilian Spanish means "pretty" or "Bonita."
My First name is Linda which means is Bonita as well.

J is for Jen, which is short for what I go by since my Middle name is Jennyffer (now about the odd spelling; I've asked my parents if they ever did LSD. Till this day they reluctantly continue to deny they ever did, but. My name. People!)
MO, is the first two letters of my Irish and German last names, and NA for my Arab last name which is Nasser, forming thus JMONA.
I've been Jmona all of my life.
My Dad calls me Mona Linda, My Mom Lisa, My Husband, Woz, some family and friends call me Jen, but other than that, I'm Jmona to everyone.
And although in the review underworld that has been my name for a little over 10 years, I was hesitant to use it for being a very personal nickname or username if I daresay, but there again Jmona is me. Just like Gandalf means Gandalf. :p
Sorry for the long explanation. I thought it'd be worth explaining why such a weird name, and why it means so much in a personal level. Although I wont deny, Lisa is still my second favorite. :)
