only things I don't like about it are

Hard to chnage the volume without looking at the touch
and no flash or java and that's about it. I love everything else about the touch

gestures on the ipod screen would be nice. left and right for FF RW, tap for play/pause, etc.
and all the ipod controls and info on the screen at once, theres plenty of room. i shouldnt have to press the "album arrow" to change a star rating. it seems like they spent hours figuring out the best way to make the classic ipods' "now playing" screens look and function, but with the touch and iphone it was an afterthought how to cram everything in.

(hi, first time poster etc...)

Had my iProd a week. I'm mostly interested in something for news & current affairs browsing/listening/watching; more than music. So, I admit, I dont' fit in with Apples business case. Still...

Things which, IMHO, could really easily improve (s/w upgrades) it:

1/ No streaming media other than QT (flash, real, etc.)
If it could do these, it would almost be an internet radio.

2/ No sync over WiFi/Lan. Oh, come one! Even the Palm could do that!!
and/or
3/ No Podcast downloads, from iTunes, directly over WiFi
That seems a shame, it would be nice to do a quick update/down load - for example before leaving home/work.

4/ A RSS catcher with cache.
Nice to be able to flip through news feeds and mark the ones for further reading...

I know none of the above end up in iTunes purchases (clearly the raison d'etre of the thing)... still, they're things I'd like to do.

One thing that does bother me, Coverflow, yeah its great for music. Looks great, but I want it to be specific. If I am in Songs, let it show the artwork for the songs, but if I'm in Podcast, don't show me the cover flow for the Music albums, show me the coverflow for all my podcasts, same thing for audiobooks. Also when your playing songs in coverflow, when the song is done let the coverflow slide to the next song that is playing instead of the staying on the old artwork. That or have a visualizer which would be neat :)

what i dont like

I really like my iPod touch but a few things that bug me are:

-How easily the back gets scrathced
-No "Notes" application
-Cant play your music as an alarm

I have no real issues with my machine ! I did my homework and messed around with a demo model before parting with my cash. I wanted it so I got it. In the Uk their is not many wifi hotspots yet, although its about time we caught up with our freinds across the pond. Starbucks and Mcdonalds are looking at introducing this facility. So I mainly use the safari option in my home , which is mainly due to my kids using the desktop and taking the laptop hostage...lol

Basically it does what I need > Plays music and looks good.

I have not jailbroke it as the apps you can add are not really useful to me at this time, although its always an option I can use if required.

I just got an 8GB model and I think theyre incredible. Im impressed with the browser speed as well, I tried in the apple store and it was kinda slow, but at home on my modest 2mb line its very satisfactory, 2-3 secs depending how busy the page- nice! Used to have a psp and that was poor in comparison.

1/ The main thing that annoys me is how the touch doesnt show up as a device that you can easily drag stuff from/to, I spose its for security whatever but its stil pretty annoying. Being able to copy stuff /from/ the touch to say another computer would be good.
2/ Also an option to switch/lock off the accelerometer quickly from various menus, as I too find it switching to/from landscape mode when lying in bed and listening or web browsing. And sometimes it is a little buggy/unresponsive.
3/ They could also add more simple features to the photo browser like 'rotate'.

YES!!! Same with me.

Also, as mentioned before, the lack of lyrics. I like to listen to music and read the lyrics as a way to study Japanese but, unfortunately can't with with the iPod touch. (Well, unless you go through the process of putting the lyrics in a memo/address book. But it'd be nice to have it attached to the song file like with other iPods.)

One thing that really makes me mad about the iPod Touch is that it connects to the internet in hotspots. For example, I was using messing with my friend's Touch and it could not connect to the internet where we were, but my other friend connected just fine with his iPhone. I guess the iPhone has connectivity in more places than the Touch does, although it seems like the two should be similar...

Ugh. This is probably my biggest complaint with the Touch (second being its relatively weak battery life). The only way I know to transfer files is through SFTP if it's jailbroken on Windows, or an easier way is to get AFPd for the Touch and use AFP if you're running on a Mac. Still, consumers shouldn't have to do this just to store data, etc. on the iPod.

The iPhone has the ability to use the EDGE network since it's a cell phone and the touch doesn't. Pretty much it.

1. smart playlists broke

2. doesnt match up with the itunes playlist such as play count and such

3. safari + listening to music = no work

  • I wish you could lock the orientation, when you're lying down it keeps changing.
  • No dedicated volume button.
  • No Flash/Java
  • Hassle to switch every time you want a comma or any type of punctuation.

And my alarm doesn't work through the tiny external speaker.
Er, it doesn't have one, does it?

1 Too much hiss/white noise with high end iems (tf10 and se530)
2 Considerable bass roll off
3 No dedicated volume rocker.
4 8 and 16 gb too expensive even for 1st gen product

3 should be taken care off asap. a stylish remote such as included with high end md players back in the days would be an option.

I am first time IPOD owner, well, I had the 80GB Classic for a week, liked it, but songs kept skipping, so I exchanged for the touch. I must say , I find it hard to put down! :)

The things I have found frustrating, like everyone else is the lack of dedicated volume controls, storage, though 8GB is about 1/3 of music collection the rest is crap anyway. Here's my thing, I run a headphone cable directly into the input in my car stereo, so, for instance I'm playing a tune , and want to change it, the screen stays on if chose "never lock." Well I'm concerned with battery life, so is there just an option to have the screen go dark after 30 sec, or so? Without having to lock the ipod? That's frustrating , cause I would just need to change the track when driving.

Also, the shuffle , is seemingly un random... for instance , it will play a Beatles song, then play a Metallica song, then another Metallica Song, then a 311 song, then another 311 song....WTH? I find that a little goofy... I probably have at least 50 artists in there.

well if they add flash, which would be amazing, then they would probably just get tid of the youtube app altogether

The biggest reason I didn't get a Touch is because of the need to look at the screen to do anything. Can't do that while I am driving. Not that there is anything else wrong with the Touch (I have 2 iPhones).

I had to go for the 160GB Classic because of the ability to change the volume, skip songs and FF and RW without having to look at the iPod while driving.
