I thought they use desktop RAM now...

iMac RAM modules, also being in use with the MacBooks and MacBook Pros and the Mac Minis.

It is also the computer Apple sells that can take the most RAM. I don't "need" it, but I have 14GB in my Mac Pro (2008). When I bought it, I don't think the iMacs could take more than 4GB.

It's been my main computer in various iterations for years.
Way worth it for me!
My bread and butter.... many dollars of income.
I'm not going elsewhere.
Happy MP customer.

I can't wait to get mine. On a daily basis I use all of the following:

Photoshop
Corel Painter
Maya
ZBrush
Unity3D
XCode
Logic
Adium
Handbrake
iTunes
Rapid Weaver
Aperture

I'm a digital art whore and even though the macbook pro in my sig chews through the above flawlessly, the Logic part is a sticking point since my sound libraries are approaching the terrabyte size so I can't keep them locally on the harddrive and even over firewire my virtual instruments load kind of slow. It will be nice to have the expansion of the mac pro and the ability to have two or three monitors on the desk.
