I thought you said it doesn't support 2D to 3D conversion (in hardware?), not that it does not support 3D Blu Ray playback with appropriate software.

Given that it is USB 3.0, it would be pathetic if it only included a 1x BD-ROM mechanism.

The Roswill advert had pros and cons. One of the cons said that it does not support 2D to 3D conversion. I was hoping you guys would tell me what that means.

I prefer the portable ones that don't need power cables.

Much easier to use.

I recommend the WD My Passport drive. I have the 1.5tb one, works awesome.

What external Optical Drive should I get

2D to 3D conversion is a feature that lets you insert a 2D DVD,Bluray and it automatically makes it 3D. Of course you can see it only on a TV or Monitor that is 3D... The Samsung one support this feature too...
Generally any BD drive that support read speed over 1x on BD discs, support 3D playback...
The 2D to 3D is something different.

I just bought a slightly used Apple USB Superdrive on eBay for $50 shipped.

A good price for slightly used one but still think that is too overpriced for just a CD, DVD drive...

I think that's a pretty good deal. I see these cheap looking drives with the drawers that pop out going for $39. The Apple was built to match our machines and it's a insert device. Well worth the extra $10

Has anyone used this one? It seems like most people that were just using it for ripping gave it good reviews but I was wondering if any Macrumor users have used it. I'm just looking for a cheap drive that I can use for ripping every once in a while.

50$ for a used one... New costs 80$ I'm sure you can find any other more expensive optical drive with better features at 50$ if the condition is used.
I admit that the Apple one is very beautiful but we pay the money in order to do our work. Not only to look at it... It lucks many features at this price point. If it supported BD read and write it would be definitely a good deal...
