I just got an m1 Macbook with a serial that starts with FV, anyone know what factory this is? No issues, just got me thinking. I've also seen C0 in a bunch of places. What does yours start with?

Well, if I were guessing, and it is a guess as I’m not familiar with the code. I’d have thought FV would be Foxconn Vietnam. We do know some manufacturing was moved there at the end of last year.

C0 however, we know to be Tech Com, a subsidiary of Quanta Computer in China. If I recall correctly.

FWIW, mines is a C0.

I'm in the UK and have the base Air with a serial number that begins C0

Yeah, I’m in the UK too, not quite the base air, but still. I have a feeling that the majority, certainly of the ones out there just now, are likely to be China. With Vietnamese production happening so late in the year, I have a feeling those will be fewer at the moment.

But, god knows really. It’s always fun interesting, well something, finding out :D

I wonder if there is a difference between whether you picked up a in stock model or had to wait for the macbook to ship? As most of the comments I've seen about ordering and tracking seem to be that the ordered macbooks shipped from China (this is my impression just from randomly browsing these forums and other places).

My 16GB/1TB MBA is an FV and was ordered for same day store pick up. Same for the 8GB/512GB I previously got (also FV, also same day store pick up).

It seems entirely reasonable that perhaps one or two of the manufacturing partners are more focused on the build to order units. With less of their production lines making the standard configurations.

I don’t suppose it really matters much, but I do find myself curious about these things. It’s either the journalist in me, the tech obsession, or the autism. Maybe a combination of all :D

Mine, which was a Chinese unit, was picked up from a third-party retailer weeks before Christmas, before stock started to dwindle.

I’m impressed with the insight into the manufacturing process that Coconut battery provides. Showing that my MacBook Air battery was manufactured less than a week before it was fitted into my Air.

Same here, while for me, I picked up the MBP M1 8C/16 /1 TB, was manufactured Week 52, and the battery was made Week 51.

My MBP is a C0 and was a standard 16GB/1TB config that I purchased at the local AS.

As far as I can tell, all of my technology devices have rolled off the Wonka Industries manufacturing line including my MacBook Air 2019...

Just to add to the mix on an older Air - my 2017 starts with C1. Fun fact - I got it from Apple's own Refurb store, so I wonder if the number makes reference to that?

There are no MacBooks assembled in Vietnam, at least nothing planned until later this year.
