A pure fitness device without display with a soft (like silicone) band. Maybe some LED's to indicate stuff like the Reign

reign-bands.png

No twitter/sms/phone call crap notifications of any sort. 7 Days battery, HR, sleep monitoring, automatic workout detection (including stuff like recognizing squat/clean/kettlebell swing/.. from movement patterns, this already exists). Phone only for sync.

...No twitter/sms/phone call crap notifications of any sort...

Interesting thought.

I wonder what long-term damage could result from having all these interruptions harassing you constantly? Increased stress levels? Increased BP? Poor sleep leading to poor concentration and reduced job performance (leading to yet-more stress)? Wouldn't that be ironic for a health-oriented device? :)

Me? I like leaving my phone downstairs at night and being out of touch. Completely out of touch.

Longer battery life. As my husband and I are planning our summer, I realized I can't take the Apple watch camping/hiking with me. Generally, we'll do a few weekend camping trips during the summer, hiking daily. There are no electrical outlets. This wouldn't be a problem with any other activity monitor that I've had.

If it told me my blood alcohol content, I'd preorder.

Maybe late at night at a bar, me and all my friends can touch watches together.....

the watch with the lowest blood alcohol content (and still legal) would light up and be the designated driver....

If none match, a taxi is called.

Same here, I leave my phone downstairs at night. I don't want to be interrupted by anything.

I think constant buzzing would cause me to use LESS apps. I already quit Facebook over 2 years ago. I use twitter only occasionally. I think the watch will help me make email rules so I get bugged less often by crap emails or texts by friends of friends who somehow are in a group-text.

Of course you could. There are external battery packs for the iPhone/iPad that would charge it probably 15-20 times at least, and that's just one battery.

Sometimes our Costco has a little solar charger for campers to charge their cell phones. It has a USB port. I don't think it was very big or expensive.

The Apple Watch has Already helped me to get less notices on my Pebble. I was inspired to go into my settings and seriously thin out my notifications. I have several email accounts that I use and I set it to only notify me when I get mail on a couple of them since the others are mostly spam or less urgent stuff.

Another nice tip. They let us remove ourselves from a group text now. Boy can THOSE get annoying when 2 of a group start bantering among themselves forgetting that 10 people are seeing it.

You know you can set Do Not Disturb to turn on and off at a designated time, like when you sleep, and it will silence the phone and keep it from lighting up. You still receive the notifications but the phone will not alert you about them. That way you have the benefit of having the phone by you, like being able to use it as your alarm clock, without being needlessly disturbed by notifications.
I doubt they'll ever add FaceTime. It's not practical really, because trust me, you're not going to want to hold your wrist up for more than a few seconds to talk to someone. Not to mention the waste of space it would be. You're right that they should reduce the bezel, and I hope they reduce it completely, ergo there would be no room for a camera.
Unequivocally disagree. I'd bet this is the number one thing they want to do, they are Prob pissed they couldn't do it now, clearly you don't know what Steve jobs was like. They want the future now. This is one of the things that you would see in old sci-fi movies. You think they don't wanna be the first, think again

 • Facetime camera - I could see it as being useful for quick chats
 • GPS - I'd love to use running apps without the phone on me
 • Better battery - I'd still charge every night, but would be able to use features like GPS and Facetime more often
 • No bezel - wishful thinking as the iPhone, iPad and new Macbook all have monstrous bezels still.

Honestly, I'll probably upgrade every other iteration or more, so if they can get this stuff in AW 3 or 4, that would be great.

7 day battery. Any less and I will forget to charge it.

It would have to have seriously enhanced sensors that read something I need read.

After having a Pebble, I'll tell you while yes having a battery life that long is nice, it also becomes a problem because every 7 days, you have to figure out just when you are going to charge it. At least with any of the smart watches where you have to charge it every night or every other night, it becomes part of your routine, just like how you charge your phone.

So, you don't want a watch... you want a fitness band..

That is exactly right. My pebble dies every other week because I see it is at 10% as I am heading out for the day. No regular habit to charge it.

I LOVE that the Apple Watch has a low power mode so it is still a basic watch until you can charge it. Did they say 72 hours? I have spent the day a few times wearing a Pebble with a black screen because I had nowhere to put it until I got home.

Yes they said 72 hours, http://www.apple.com/watch/battery.html

"Power Reserve
Up to 72 hours

If your battery gets too low, Apple Watch automatically switches into Power Reserve mode so you can continue to see the time for up to 72 hours. Testing conducted by Apple in March 2015 using preproduction Apple Watch and software with 4 time checks (4 seconds each) per hour. Battery life varies by use, configuration, and many other factors; actual results will vary."

I think it'll be very interesting to read real world feedback once people realize that in fact it requires daily charging. Somehow I think battery life will suddenly become a huge topic of conversation.

As such, I’m not sure how Apple could improve it in the next generation or so to make me want to trade up. Native apps always take a while to catch up to hardware improvements. New sensors? I’m really not sure what new sensor they could add. A sleep sensor would be nice but I don’t see battery life improving all that much to support 24hr wearing. Other health sensors I could imagine might only be worthwhile to the people who have a particular problem, say, with blood sugar. And I’m not sure how much thinner they could get it and still have a functional digital crown.

What do you think they could feasibly do to get you to trade up next year or the year after?

If it can't be used independent of the phone and have more memory, I will not upgrade, and if the watch doesn't work as advertised by Apple, I will wake up and realize Jobs is gone :(

I just do not think that will be as huge an issue as some others believe. It is a companion to a device that also needs charging every day.

You do realize, just because it was in old sci-fi movies, doesn't make it a good thing to have. I doubt they ever do it, as I said, it just simply doesn't make since for the wrist.

Probably the only feature that I'm disappointed the 1st gen won't have is GPS capabilities. For typical daily use having my iPhone in my pocket makes little difference, but if I could use the Apple Watch with bluetooth headphones on a run and get full GPS data for RunKeeper at the same time without my phone, I'd gladly do it. I currently run with my iPhone in an armband, and even after the Watch comes out I'll still be doing that for the GPS data.

I'm not buying the Apple Watch. But, what will entice me to buy the next gen Apple Watch is a charge that can last days instead of just hours. I'm just not keen on having to plug another device every night to charge.

I'll probably skip 2 and go for 3 but some cool things would be the all day stress monitoring. Interface between watch and band so maybe one day I want to wear a battery band if I'm traveling. Maybe a sport band could include extra sensors that wouldn't normally be useful. Maybe they could have a gps style wilderness band. Solar charging watch band for camping would be pretty sweet. Basically you may not be able to cram all of this stuff into the watch itself but it would be cool to be able to situationally add capabilities. Just make it backwards compatible with the old bands.

I love long camping trips with multi-day hikes. Some of the external batteries have pretty heft weight to them. I backed this kickstarter:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ezelleron/kraftwerk-highly-innovative-portable-power-plant

I can't wait to see if it works as smoothly and effectively as shown.

Apart from the obvious of longer battery life and waterproofing, would be tempted to upgrade if they unbundle the restriction of watch and the band selections.

I really want the Space Black Stainless Steel watch but can't justify $1000+ AUD because it's bundled with the Link Bracelet. For the next Apple Watch, if I can get the black stainless steel case for a reasonable price and get to choose a cheaper band, like the black sports band, or a 3rd party band, I'll definitely upgrade from my AW1 black aluminium.
