No just stock Doom 3, I've never tried any mods for it.

I got the vanilla one too, no mods but they "patched" that in years ago. I bought it some two years ago and didn't rememember it being differently when playing the demo for it back in the day. The original is either gun or flashlight..which makes it even more freaky to play.

Doom 2 (and 1): agreed, play them every other month. You ever tried Dark Forces though? I believe it came shortly after Doom2 and while not quite there it's super enjoyable if one isn't bothered by outdated graphics. Top notch level design (!!) - I'd say more or less on par with the Doom ones. And up until now (6 missions in) every single level was vastly different - including textures. Very impressed with that game - too bad I couldn't play it back in 1996 or whenever it got released.

Finished all of Life is Strange this week. Liked the setting, music and story. Nothing revolutionary, but rewinding time to see alternate outcomes was pretty cool. It does kind of eliminate the need for a second play through though. I reset the game from the final chapter to see an alternative ending (the way the game handles multiple saves was smart), but other than that once you're done with the game, there is little more to see or do.

Playing Dark:Forces

No, I haven't played Dark Forces. There was a Star Wars FPS I played years ago on PC. I think it was Dark Forces 2, this looks familiar:

I should still have the disks for it somewhere... Wow, I haven't thought about that game in a long time. It was a lot of fun from what I remember.

Is there a version that works with the latest Mac OS X?

No idea. Never played the sequel but read good things about it. But I believe there was a lot of jumping and even third person stuff involved, which I'm not overtly fond of in a FPS tbh. Also the first one has no jedi powers/light sabres involved - which also is a plus for me.

I checked out a lot of SW games lately and have to say a) didn't really play that many and b) there is a plethora of really good ones out there, almost all of them have some merits - which is weird because movie based games generally fail hard to begin with. Those KotoR games are supposed to be top notch as well - if only I had the time for a RPG..

I do remember using the lightsaber, it was pretty cool at the time. I don't recall using any force powers though, so they must not have been good enough to be memorable.

Knights of the Old Republic was pretty good. I did get burnt out on it half way through a second play through, though. I never have gotten around to trying the second one.

Bloodborne:

Just spent a few hours with Captain Logarious and can't beat him. One time I got his health down to about 30%, but usually I die way before then. Gonna leave this one alone for awhile, he's an optional boss anyway.

Honestly, and this may sound like blasphemy, but I really do not enjoy the boss fights all that much. Weakest point of the game for me. I love exploring the levels and fighting my way through to find the short cut without dying. LOVE it!! But the boss fights are just kind of ugh... I think the only game that ever did boss fights right for me was Shadow of the Colossus.

I started playing assassins creed syndicate on ps4 tonight. Finished first two assassinations and its very good. Far better than Unity or Black Flag.

Also picked up Destiny Taken King edition for £25 new from Amazon. I'd post my impressions but I'm still downloading the 18gb patch!!! God I hate day 1 patches. SOB's

The Legend of Zelda Oracle of Seasons!
I'm inching my way through that. I really want to love it but it's just lacking a little spark. Going to keep playing though and then start up on Oracle of Ages.

I never owned the games new but about 5 years ago a friend on another forum was selling a load of his old games, managed to pick up both (boxed!) for super cheap at £20/$30. Years later an acquaintance on Twitter was moving house and so was getting rid of all his retro stuff, got the games boxed again as well as a rare GBA and GBC. I swear these games are drawn to me.

I've only just started on it. I just completed the first dungeon earlier today. After completing Ocarina of Time 3D recently I have to say I'm finding the top down view of Seasons refreshing for its simpler gameplay.

Having a hard time with the latest Bloodborne difficulty ramp-up. (After Ronnie, the Ridiculous Spider)

Tried dozens of times to take down Martyr Logarious, not sure if I'm even gonna bother with him anymore. Lost all my blood vials and need to go back to grinding first anyways.

Went to Yahar Gul instead, and it's hard as nails. The whole game, my strategy has been to take my time, wait for my window, carefully take enemies out one by one. Now we have respawning enemies, and my strategy goes out the window. If I wait too long, enemies I already killed will come back and attack me from behind.

Still have the Nightmare Frontier to check out, hopefully that will be more fun.

I can't believe people finished it in a few days tbh. I'm still bombing around the old cathedral getting drop kicked into touch by those saggy bag bolluxed enemy's. If I'm struggling here and your a good two steps ahead and another difficulty spike, god help me.

Have you played Link's Awakening? IMO it's the pinnacle of 2D Zeldas, or at least on par with the phenomenal Link Between Worlds.

I can't put my finger on precisely what I don't like about Oracle of Seasons. I really love parts of it but it's not holding me in like other Zeldas usually do. I've just beaten the 2nd dungeon and I'm a bit lost :)

It certainly does not get easier, but with a little patience, I got by okay until now.

I just learned that the enemies only respawn until you take out their respective bell chiming witch, so that's good to know. Maybe I can find a way to rush through them, take out their bitch, and then deal with them one by one.

No, I've missed out on all of the Zelda games. Ocarina was the first one I really played. I had Zelda 1 & 2 on my NES as a kid but that doesn't count as that was too long ago to remember much about them. I'm hoping to score a decent deal on a Wii U during "Black Friday" partly so I can experience some of these great, classic games through the VC that I've been missing out on for all these years.

Duuuuuuuude, how can you not remember the Force powers?!?! ;) Force run, jump, choke, push, pull, lightening, healing, etc.,. and they were split into three categories (Light, Neutral and Dark). Dark Forces 2 was such a great game and the Mysteries of the Sith expansion pack was pretty good too (though the plot was a little wonky in parts).

My copy of Fallout 4 just turned up, so I'll see you all next month :p

Edit: Of course, there's a 500 MB update (PS4) which is going at a glacial pace...

500mb isn't too bad. Please post tour thoughts in a few days. I will buy it but I'm holding off or at least trying to as I have such a ridiculous backlog as it is.

500 MB isn't too bad, but it was coming down at about 5 Mb/s...

Initial thoughts are pretty positive. I haven't played the previous Fallouts but I've had fun with this one and it seems to be fairly easy to get into as a newbie.

The phone app is a nice touch and it's beneficial to be able to have the map open on there while playing. It also makes it easier to switch weapons in a blind panic :)

Meanwhile, who needs the Pip-Boy Edition when you have sellotape? :p

I think I know what I'm doing for my day off..

Ok so officially sick of Halo 5 !! I am not a multiplayer gamer so I'm basing it off single player campaign but I'm just sooooo bored. It's as repetitive as hell and even bosses (guardians) are just same thing recycled over and over. It's as dull as dishwater, so whilst I was going to hold out - I am going instead to trade this in later for Fallout 4

Currently installing.

REALLY wish I'd booked today off from work. Partially because of a cold that I can't shake, but mostly because of this.

Ok so Fallout 4 is simply breathtaking... the graphics! HOLY cow, easily some of the best I've seen on next gen AND pc. Either or. They're stupidly good. Breathtaking. Everything really does have this Pixar look to it, especially when you bring up your Pip-Poy that's rendered in real-time. Stunning.

Ok enough about the graphics. The gameplay is simply stellar. Voice acting top notch, environments absolutely gorgeous. And it has colors!

By far my favorite Fallout thus far, and I've sunk over 200 hours into Fallout 3 (or close to, having played through the main campaign over 17 times A to Z, and all the DLC start to finish at least once).
