Ordered the 12.9 with LTE in 256. Figured that would be enough. Now trying to figure out if I should have gone for the 516 or 1TB. Not using it as as my main computer. What y’all getting?

I picked up the 12.9” LTE 1Tb today. We travel a bit and I edit videos and photos on the fly. Having capacity to store 5-6 weeks worth of video/photo data is important to me. And the extra memory (whatever it may offer in terms of performance) was a bonus.

I just went with 64gb. It’s always been enough for me and the price is already high enough. 12.9”

I plan to use it as my main computing device so I choose 512, on my iPhone XS with 256 I have a usage of about 200Gb at the moment so 256 would be not enough for me but 512 should be okay. I also use cloud space on different services with a total amount > 3 TB

I’d bite on a tb if apple included it in iCloud (an easy thing to do for them to drive more sales you’d think). That’s the thing. You need more space. You get used to it. Next iPad needs to be same. I’ll probably still think about it. It would certainly have its uses not needing optimized photos, more media to stuff on it, etc.

    256. My 10.5 with 256 has plenty of room left, I do mostly streaming and maybe store 1 or 2 movies just for when I'm on a plane without internet etc. As for photos I have iCloud which solves storage for all my .jpg smartphone shots and Lightroom CC and its cloud storage for my RAW DSLR shots. I also frankly believe in my heart that external storage by USB-C is coming in iOS 13 so if I suddenly want to start dumping 1000 photos on vacation directly to the iPad for editing before I get home it will be able to do so using a portable hard drive sooner than later. For now I am happy.

I’d imagine 256 is the typical sweet spot. I got the 256 as everything’s in iCloud for me. I do a lot of photoshopping so I thought about 512 but the price is already steep and most of my psd’s are user generated content (drawing) which typically takes less file size then raw photography.

Although I’ll add if Vectorworks ever comes to iPad I’ll have to upgrade to 512 or even 1tb. Which is possible as they did mention autocad at the keynote.

I'm sure someone else will have a reason but for me the primary reasons to need a lot of space (beyond 256) is...

    1. VIDEO
    2. RAW PHOTOS

and further both of the above are likely need for EDITING. Maybe I am a wedding photographer and want to dump 1000+ RAW photos directly to the iPad and begin editing. Or maybe I am into video so for example I go and take a bunch of 4K video on a GoPro, my iPhone, and my DSLR camera and want to edit a long 1 hour movie or something. The files that will make that up are huge and extensive and you might need 1TB. To be honest? With iMovie etc. I'd rather just do it with FinalCut on my iMac once home. This is where the iPad Pro falls down because of the limits of iOS but I truly believe that iOS 13 will bring with it external storage support making this whole issue moot and I have to believe Apple is working on iOS versions of FinalCut etc. the way "full" Lightroom is coming to the iPad.

Same. I have the 12.9 32GB now and have 17GB leftover. I use the pad as my daily surf machine at home. I boot up my MM quad core if I need to store files or do real PC work. I don’t see the need to buy a bunch of storage on the pad. I back it up to ITunes regularly and things like photos are stored on my secondary and external drives. For the price of a 1TB Pad Is rather have a 64GB IPP AND a MBA.

I was initially considering getting 1TB, just because :D
But reality kicked in, my old 12.9 was/is 128GB and thanks to cloud storage and the occasional use of my MobileLite, I've never gotten close to hitting 40GB.

So, I decided on a 64GB and used the spare cash to get the cellular version. I missed that in my old iPad which was WiFi only. Personal Hotspot is good, but having built-in cellular beats it hands down. Plus, proper, truly unlimited data, I can stream and do whatever to my hearts content :D

I got the 64GB. Cheap and Cheerful, plus i am good at space management. The only time it becomes an issue is if i want to download a bunch of stuff to watch on holiday, but with two kids i probably get the chance to watch like 3 episodes anyway haha

In the UK, I’ve picked up a sim from Virgin Media (they use the EE network, currently the best here). Because I’m an existing customer. Of their TV and home broadband, which is also unlimited and I get around 450 meg, even though it’s advertised as 350. I get completely unlimited data.

They’re not kidding either, people on the forums who have put it to the test have gone far beyond 1TB of data use in a month and tens of GB of personal hotpot too.

That’s pretty great, i feel like a comparable plan doesn’t exist in the states. I’ve been paying 30 for 3gb’s a month on at&t but just picked up the new one today and haven’t committed to a carrier yet.

I often hear that, it seems data is a particular premium in the states. Which totally shocked me, normally I expect everything to be better there.

I always imagine there’s better infrastructure, faster connections and better prices. But it doesn’t always seem to be the case.

    64GB.

I use Spotify for music, iCloud Photos for photos, iCloud Drive for files, iTunes in the Cloud for movies, etc. There's almost nothing on my device except apps. I didn't get LTE either; I use my phone for tethering when necessary (which is hardly ever...imo wi-fi is everywhere these days).
