I enjoy my work and my co-workers. I hate waking up because I go to bed late but the looking forward to work makes it worth it.

Generally, having to use the bathroom. During the summer, this can be anywhere from 8 AM to 3 PM.

School days, it never fails to happen 15 minutes before my alarm clock goes off...and I can't force myself to stay awake until then, so I'm off for 10 minutes of unrest-full sleep and a jolting alarm. :(

A canine presence that lurks at the foot of the bed, awaiting the first sign of movement before pouncing.

Interesting, because I love waking up, then falling asleep for a short time, and waking up again.

If I have to get up at 6:30 I set two alarms--one for 6:20 and the other for 6:30. I go to sleep in between. It helps me wake up and be alert.

Sad to say that I wake up pretty much every single morning sometime between 5:00am - 6:00am with absolutely no outside motivation - no alarm clock, husband waking me, etc. I just wake up :( I believe I am trained from having two children under the age of 4. those little guys have thrown my sleep off since they day they were born :D

The smell of my sister brewing coffee at 5:30am. She's like clockwork and it gently wakes me up in time for my morning shower, jog to Starbucks and back, another shower and then off to work.

But really what gets me out of bed is the chance of seeing this super studdly guy jogging down University in the morning.

I tell you what woke me up this morning - a monster sized thunder storm right above our house (At least the first big thunder clap). Bloody thing. I've only had 5 hours sleep and God knows I can't resist watching a good storm .

And no better reason needs be given. :D

Myself, I like to get to my desk/drawing board early so I can perve through the window at the cyclists off to work… granted, some more perve-worthy than others… but still… nice way to start the day over a cuppa. ;)

I actually like mornings and I like getting up early. There's just something, especially in the summer, about the smell of wet grass and the sun. :-/

Now, going to sleep for 8+ hours is a different story. I can function pretty well with only 3-4 hours but I imagine is pretty unhealthy.

Don't get up.
Don't go to work.
Don't get paid.
Can't buy things/pay for bills.
Epic fail.

Or the thought of a nice breakfast/cold shower motivates me. Plus, it helps if I have something to look forward to, like dinner with friends, or going to watch a movie after work. It makes the day go by much faster.

And no, I'm not talking about getting a fix for your wet willy.

I find my job to be boring and unsatisfying, but a lot of people still do what they do because they have to. But even if you do enjoy your work, there's always a point where it will become mediocre...i'm trying to to find out if one should really pursue what they want or just get a job like the rest of the world and move on...

I think you should pursue what you want to do but be realistic about it. The truth is that not everything “someone wants to do” is good way to make a living and fulfill your responsibilities. That’s why some things are called “hobbies”.

The other realistic part is that if what you want to do is competitive and you are not very good at it, perhaps you’re better off going where the money is. The world is about competition sometimes and this is why a lot of people “just get a job”. You might want to be the next Michael Jackson, but in reality, no matter how much you love singing and dancing, most people are not cut out for that type of work.

However if you DO have a talent and think you will get satisfaction from having success with such talent, then I think you should take an opportunity to pursue it because you never know what the future will bring. And sometimes it’s better to have tried and failed than to look back on life thinking that you were a chicken. Of course sometimes you have to weight this pursuit with present responsibilities if they conflict. That would be a personal call.

There is nothing “wrong” with “just getting a job” that makes a living. If people didn’t do that, many of society’s operations will not work, obviously. In the history of civilization, there are leaders and there are followers. Some of these leaders exhibit characteristics such as talent, passion, or simply some unstoppable compulsive behavior that turns out to be productive. The overwhelming majority follow these people in one way or another…whether it’s to make computers…or to wage war. You just have to understand whether you are a soldier or a general and be the best you can be at what you do.

I love my job...I get in and grab a cup of coffee, fire up Xcode and go to town (software developer :))
Working is pretty relaxing compared to school. I can "sleep in" (in other words i get to go to bed earlier cause I don't have as much stuff to do), dont have to be in at any particular time (unlike class), and it's generally alot of fun. I guess im lucky to have gotten into software development since its something I can do without getting bored.

My TV turns on to the local news, I roll out of bed, pee, and what gets me fully awake is drinking decaffeinated tea of the Tazo or Twinings variety.

Work or school.

If I have one of those blissful days with neither, a freight train beside my bed couldn't wake me up before 11 am.

My biological clock wakes me up around 5:30am every morning, even on those days when I'm not working!! Guess this is what happens when you train yourself to getup early...

Alarm and/or the coffee machine.

I used to have one with a timer on it and the smell of coffee would awake me up - that broke, but I've been thinking about getting another one. (note: never on days containing important appointments)
