For the past couple of weeks, whenever a group of friends or co-workers sit down with cells phones I do a quick survey of who has reception and who does not. I've done this random survey often in Manhattan, in Boston and in Miami. The results are that Verizon has the superior system and in general ATT is lacking. In the short-term I agree that this is a problem to take up with ATT but in the long-run, "what good is the coolest phone if you don't have the coolest network?"
Ok...so for you and your friends that's the case. I hope you enjoy being handcuffed to sub-par phones on more expensive plans, with a provider who would happily block text messages YOU ASKED FOR that are political in nature, if only those pesky rights weren't in the way.
Ahem. Anyhow, my personal hatred of VZW aside, this is a subjective opinion. Sorry you've had a bad experience with AT&T, but I can easily gather 10 friends who purchased or switched to AT&T phones due to the superior signal in different areas. It happens.
Verizon is going to have the best reception, it's just more logical, they have the more advanced software.
I have no idea what you're talking about. AT&T's 3G is more advanced than CDMA EV-DO, although that will change when RevA EV-DO rolls out. However, it's all moot since CDMA is dying out everywhere else in the world in favor of GSM-based 3G and 4G networks. Verizon's future 4G network will be GSM based, so your argument makes no sense.
I guess what I'm saying is that there exists alot of poor quality cell service that we all pay handsomely for. Where else do you pay $50 to $100 a month and are disappointed with the service a certain percentage of the time. From informal discussions and travel it seems that ATT is generally better in the West and Verizon is better in the East. ATT does makes coverage in Europe a breeze, although expensive. But Apple has created an incredible product - one that has changed the landscape of what a cell phone is. It's a shame to put this marvelous device out to poor service. I'm reminded of the fact that ATT became the huge corporation that it is because Alexander G. Bell refused to sell his telephone and the wires that connected it. Bell thought that if greedy companies got involved with his invention they would use inferior wires and make inferior phones so he decided only lease his well manufactured phone. I do think it's fair that customers should complain when the system they use sucks. I would prefer to see less corporate greed and more ATT network spread throughout the US. In other words, if I'm paying for the "coolest" phone, yes, I would like the "coolest" network.
Ok. First of all, your beef is with AT&T, not Apple. Apple did business with the organization that could accommodate them the best. This does not in any way, shape, or form obligate them to fit YOUR needs. They didn't hold a gun to your head and force you to buy an iphone. It sounds like you're pissed because AT&T isn't working out for you. So switch back to Verizon. It's that simple.
Apple and AT&T have a long standing 5 year agreement. If you want your iphone, you're stuck on AT&T. Sorry. Have a nice day. I hate to harsh on you, but seriously, you're way out of hand with your argument. I am totally ok with you ranting that you don't like AT&T, or the service hasn't been up to par FOR YOU, but declaring one network to be vastly superior and bitching that there's some sort of obligation on Apple's part to correct this issue is ridiculous.
