Apple announces retina macbook pro 13 and updates the classic ones everything available + retina macbook at higher price

retina macbooks drop in price and gets the 15 inch retina one because a while later those displays are way cheaper and the retina 15 inch panel makes sense

Not true:
On June 11, 2012, at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco Apple introduced a new third generation MacBook Pro, marketed as the "MacBook Pro with Retina display" to differentiate it from the updated models of the previous generation released the same day.[51] The new model includes Intel's third generation Core i7 processors (Ivy Bridge microarchitecture) along with USB 3.0 integrated, and a high-resolution 15.4" IPS 2880x1800-pixel Retina display.[52] Other new or changed features include a second Thunderbolt port, an HDMI port, and a new thinner MagSafe port, dubbed the 'MagSafe 2'.[76]

On October 23, 2012 Apple introduced a 13-inch version with very similar specifications to the 15-inch version

Dual 980M in SLI!!! :D:D:D At least in my dreams.
wipes drool from my mouth -
I absolutely need this now! :D

i have move from 27"qhd (u2711) to 24" 4k (up2414q) for 3 month.
i think 4k 24" is much more better than 27".

imo, retina imac will have only one display option 24".maybe $2299.
while they bump 21.5" and 27" some spec.

I am feeling more and more convinced with 24K retina - would more than meet my needs.

$2299 = £1436 = 1,221 <education discount> if only!
i am thinking more like $2.5-3K

980M SLI would be awesome. It would not even be overkill with a 4K or 5K screen. Also the Mac Pro has dual GPU so.... :D:apple:

no sli support in yosemite or any mac os ever...sorry.
Ever is a long time. I bet a lot of people said the same about Intel PCs during the PPC era.

Besides seeing that Mac Pro uses dual GPU I would not find it far-fetched at all that they would move in that direction also for other Macs.

Hope everyone here has $3,000+ ready to go for this machine.
The lack of last minute leaks spells a long delivery time to me. On the other hand Tim Cook mentioned in one of the investor calls that he specifically regretted an early announcement and long delivery time of the first 27" new form factor iMacs.

I'm ready to order tonight if it has:
- Retina
- PCIe SSD
- 16GB RAM
- New CPU
- 980M or equivalent GPU

The iMac is basically a laptop with a big screen. It's components, from the CPU to chipset to graphics chip, are standard, laptop versions. They need to be because of the chassis they have to fit inside. Unless Apple decides to abandon the case and design philosophy behind it, an SLI setup inside an iMac isn't happening. The Mac Pro, a machine where every component Is customized to fit within its form factor and consequently starts at $3000, is about as relevant to the iMac as a Ferrari is to a Ford Focus. Because Ferrari has a 600hp engine doesn't mean it's going to show up in hatchbacks.

It amazes me on threads like this where the speculation is completely untethered from reality.

BTW, my personal belief - not based on any shadowy Apple whistleblowers - is that the 27" iMac will be introduced with a 4k 3740x2160 display option. The iMac will upconvert internally to a 5k resolution of 5120x2880 so that it can smoothly scale up graphic elements but it will be downscaled to the 4k display output. This would work just like the iPhone 6 Plus which internally scales to 2208x1242 but downscaled to the screen resolution of 1920x1080.

- Retina --- This will come as either 3840x2160 (4K) or a whopping 5120x2880 (5K and exactly 2x the existing 2560x1440 resolution). High-end displays with even 4K resolution sell for $2,000+ just for the display alone! $$$$$$$$$$$
- PCIe SSD --- This already exists as a BTO option. My Late-2013 27-inch iMac has a stock 256GB SSD --- $$$$
- 16GB RAM - I can see this being standard but at an Apple-absurd $$$ amount
- New CPU - This is a given $$
- 980M or equivalent GPU - $$$$$

So yea...hope your piggy bank is full my friend. All of your prerequisites will not come cheap or anywhere close to the starting price of existing iMacs.

The iMac uses a desktop CPU and chipset. Only the GPU is a mobile version.

You're right and I stand corrected. My point remains the same - the slim, heat-constrained form factor of the iMac makes dual GPUs very far fetched.

----------

Additionally many manufacturers are able to stuff the SLI mobile cards in their laptops. Apple could as well if they wanted to. The downside of course is the added heat -> noise.

Which is why it's not happening - Apple seems to want to minimize noise and heat on their desktops as much as they do with their laptops. If Apple changes the form factor or were willing to allow more noise and heat with the iMac, sure, possibilities expand. But then we are talking about what we wish/hope Apple to do with the iMac versus what they have been doing with the product line for the last 15 years.

I doubt its the noise. Two more reasons are lacking customer demand and added cost which would push the overall price point too high.

Noise is a reason, but not THE reason.

I they (Apple) make the iMac thinner again maybe there will be no room for a dual/sli mobile GPU. This maybe like the MBPR launch all over again.

Obviously Apple controls much better leaks related to its Mac lines, when the Mac Pro arrived was an total surprise it's form factor (few expected an minimalist super computer like the original cube thanks Ive for switching the cube to an cylinder).

One of the points of control of Apple must be Obviously the LCD panel, once it it's know the whole surprise it's gone, I suspect Apple injected the 5K iMac rumour so the usual wistbowler bite the bait and help spreading the false assertion, then surprise surprise the retina iMac it's 4K and 21.5"...

Today my personal Apple wistblower reconfirmed me the 4K iMac 21 having totally new keyboard/TouchPad combo wireless and Rechargeable with back light (I'll get two of these). NO 27" iMac neither retina cinema display, Apple will sold separately and 3rd party 5K display Mac Pro only compatible.

Insist also the announcement of the 12 rMBP but not available soon, or as early as on December 15.

All other stuff w/o surprises renewed iPad, he is not sure about the 12“ iPad but if announced unlikely to be immediately available.

The big star next Thursday keynote will be the new Macintosh 21 4K, believes will be a shocker product as the nMacPro last year.

As for the mac mini, while an new mini is coming he believes will not be available this year, but still maybe an little surprise about.

No word on the xMac Pro, only confirm 6 core Xeon ddr4 as new base Mac Pro, but loves the idea of an Haswell-E / dual nVidia 9xx xMac.

one word, Fool.

upgradeable to 4GHz i7. Radion R9 M290X graphics. Upgradeable to M295X.

Agreed!
I'm so tired of all these Internet wise guys that are so sure about themselves and their amazing knowledge. So much for your inside information, Mago.

But we all knew that all along....
