What happened to Push Notification?

september JUST ended today. WHAT PISSES me off is that

APPLE DIDNT EVEN SAY ANYTHING ABOUT IT PUBLICLY!!!!

they just said sept an when they pussied out ..thought ..."maybe they forgot and we will give it to em ****in October and they'll be happy and we will look like kings to them!! muahahaamuahaha " WTF!!!??!?!?
 
are you guys talking about email push notification or something else? :confused:

Well, as much as I do not think that there is a chance that we will see it today. It is only 4:45 in Cupertino, CA, and that leaves over 7 hours left for them to release it and still be true to their word. But I would rather that they wait a few weeks to a month if it means fewer bugs. The 2.0 release felt very rushed, and I wish that they waited a week more before releasing it if it meant that it ran more smoothly. It is probably simply that they do not want to release an overly buggy release, especially after the iPhone 3G, MobileMe, and iPhone/iPod touch v. 2.0 release, that was a disaster on all parts, schedule planning through stableness of the software, that was a nightmare.

EDIT: tastychicken, this is the ability for 3rd party applications to receive data when they are not opened, not email push or anything like that. This is more like AIM being able to receive messages while you are using the Safari app.

it is fine if they have to delay it, but say something about it.

we cant force them to release it, but people enjoy to be kept in the loop on what is going on.
 
They won't charge us for it. That would be idiotic. The question is whether we'll ever see it. As far as I know, I've yet to hear a report that it's in the 2.2 betas. Maybe that's against the NDA to talk about, but if it isn't in the 2.2 betas, then perhaps Apple has put that on ice for a while.

No more idiotic than charging for MobileMe for "hosting", taking 30% from app developers for "hosting", charging for ringtones every way they can, or making touch users pay for updates while handwaving about SOX.

Push notifications requires hosting as well. It's not hard to visualize Apple requiring a MobileMe account for it.

Well, it is funded by the $99 developer subscription and the 30% off paid app store. The consumers won't be hit by the payment only the developers. (Which they already do).
 
Duhhh don't you guys know by now that these deadlines that Apple tries to meet for things iPhone related just umm.. suck?

I had a feeling we wouldn't see Push probably until like November.

I noticed one thing about mac users, they are the most ungrateful ignorant whinny individuals ever. You'll get push when you get it, I'm excited about it to and a little upset we didn't get it when we said we were gonna get it. But I'm not gonna boo-hoo over it. if it's not one thing its another. I would rather wait to get it when it works right then have another 2.0 situation where everything is extremely buggy and they need 2 more updates to fix it. I would like to see push and copy and paste but I can wait till it comes out perfect. You people give us loyal mac users a bad name. You all act like a bunch of spoiled rich kids, complaining about every little thing. Lets say they release push today, everyone is happy until they use it and it doesn't work right, then you would just bitch about how it doesn't do this or doesn't do that. So it really doesn't matter when they release it your still gonna complain about something else, so instead of sitting here on these forums bitching about everything, how about you search it and find out what you can about it, ask around, and keep the ignorance to yourself. This is a forum meant to talk (ask about things) about Apple products not bitch about every little thing Apple does wrong. If I'm not mistaken were all Apple users because we love the products. If you don't like the product take it back and SHUT THE F*** UP!!!!

I agree in that I would rather have a finished product released to me over a 'slapped together to get it done in time' product. most iphone customers probably do not watch the keynotes and haven't a clue about push notification and what it means, much less when we were supposed to get it. I feel neglected by apple for not offering an explanation for why it is running behind. is doesn’t have to be headline news, just a 'we had bugs to work out, but it should be fixed in time for the next firmware release.' it is like telling your boss that you will have something ready for him next tuesday, and come that tuesday, you are nowhere to be found.

we are left in the dark wondering if it is coming soon or if it is not going to be here until MacWorld.

personally I am enjoying the anticipation, because I can think of how great it will be, before I get disappointed in the reality of the bugs that will be there at launch. (mobileme still smoldering in me)
