If Apple is announcing a 4S tomorrow, what have the engineers been doing for the last year? (I'm giving them the 3 or 4 months that it'd take to figure out how to put the A5 in, that's why I'm saying THE LAST YEAR).

Post images of what you believe they've been doing with their time.

Spoken like a true person who has never attempted any kind of engineering in their life.

What have you contributed to the future of technology other than reposts of other people's pictures on the internet?

I made that picture in PHOTOSHOP, lady...MYSELF.

And again, I am 1 human being...not a multi-multi-multi billion dollar company. If I was, I would contribute something worth buying, though. I'll tell you that much.

So apply for a job somewhere that will allow you to do that. You're obviously completely qualified for the job.

I'm not saying I'm qualified. I'm saying that if I had billions of dollars, I'd pay someone who IS qualified to get the job done and get it done quickly. You think Steve Jobs figured out how to shove the A5 into the iPhone 4 body? lol. nope. He pays people to do that nonsense for him.

Stop being such a negative Nancy, woman.

"I see you have never done any engineering work."

Well I have bro. 40 years of it with IBM in R&D. Engineers don't determine what the product is to be. That's Marketing and Product Planning guessing what the competitive environment will be at the time of announcement. Engineering may object that they simply cannot release that product in the time allowed, but they almost never win that battle. Sometimes they are right and there is a slight delay of announcement followed by some demotions. We've had the delay, where is the 5?

If Apple releases what most of us visualize as the 4S, then somebody is in bad trouble because the iPhone is the point product that makes the iPad and various computing products look desirable to the public. It's the interconnectivity of the brand that captures customers. All that fails if the announcement is a 4S. Apple has egg on it's corporate face and hell will freeze over and poor Tim Cook will be branded a loser for life even though it's probably wrong to blame him.

I hope for the best, but I asked my favorite guy at the ATT store to try to hold a Sammy for me until 2PM EDT Wednesday.

The point being made is that unless you have brought a product from prototype to the market, you have no idea what's involved. Dozens of concept designs will be created and exhaustively tested before even settling on a preferred design. Then, designs have to be tested for reliability.

Who knows what Apple have got planned for the iPhone next year .. Quite a few new technologies are on the horizon and these all have to be tried, tested and optimised. Every power-using component looked at to reduce power consumption more.

Then that helps to stop consumers complaining about their new shiny gadget not working/breaking/having no battery life

Except the iPhone 4 is still flying off the shelves. I'm sure Apple have it covered. You think they haven't considered all this?

I have a pretty good idea of what's involved in taking a pre-existing design and adding some vamped up components to it. If this was a new phone, I'd be accepting of the fact that they didn't announce in June. This is the same freaking phone their R&D department probably started working on 3 or so years ago.

Let's face it. If Apple drops a 4S, they dropped the ball on this one. And they are going to lose millions of dollars in revenue because of it.

That's all that I'm really trying to say.

See above. It's predecessor is still the biggest selling model after 15 months

I keep hearing that. And I understand that. That completely proves my point.

People buying the iPhone 4 now don't care about design, they don't care about anything. They just want the APPLE IPHONE. If Apple introduces a brand new phone, those same stupid people are going to still want the APPLE IPHONE!!!!!!!! The difference is, the people that already have the iPhone, that are bored with the current version, will ALSO buy the newly designed phone. It's the people who have iPhone 4's, the MILLIONS UPON MILLIONS of people who have it, that Apple needs to focus on getting to buy.

Everybody else is easy.

To be honest, I'll be pleased if it's a low level upgrade as then I won't have a dilemma about buying it and can wait until the next one.

Well maybe its the software engineers thats to blame. Maybe ios 5 and this huge icloud thing has been the hold up for they long planned iPhone 4S.

You think Apple expect people to upgrade every year?

In any case they'll struggle to meet demand as it is. If everyone wanted it, they'd end up disappointing people and probably forcing more into the evil clutches of Android...

3GS owner

One thing I Will be very mad at if Apple chooses to release an iPhone 4S, is as an 3GS owner I Will never be "wowed"...I Will always recieve the "S" update of à product that has existed on the market for at least a year. I am saying this because here in Sweden you usually sign contracts for atleast 18 months but more probably 24 months ( as I am)...

So...If they continue with this cycle I Will always be the S owner that has never been "wowed" like the 3G or IP4 owners...
I know Apple doesn't care and they shouldn't...

They should care about the competition...There is à reason why Therese are expectations of à redesign, bigger screen etc... the market has changed...

The upgrade from 3G to 3GS was an update that made a phone barely usable to beeing very usable. The "user experience" was a 5 star compared to the 3G. People these days don't care if the "new" phone starts 2 sec faster or a game loads 3 sec faster as long as its fast enough ( as it is now with IP4).

According to some polls and researches online you Will Find that most users want a bigger screen! About the redesign...Think about it...Have you Ever bought a phone in the past that looked exactly the same as the one you had for the last 2 years? I don't think so...

The design of the phone is part of the user experience, it is part of what is different from the phone you had before...
Of course the software should change as it is today, but My point is that Apple shouldn't forget the looks, because we all know it gives the first impression to people.

Still crossing My fingers for a redesign....

.

Can we at least wait till AFTER the presentation to put egg on Apple's face and brand Cook a loser for life?

I don't think they expect people to. I think that if the execs have fully functional brains, they would definitely WANT people to upgrade every year. If they aren't thinking about ways to get iPhone 4 users into this next phone, then it is astonishing that they've developed the amount of power that they have.
