Migrated my last power-sucking machine (a Mac Pro 2006), that acted as a media server, to a 2012 Mac Mini, and decommissioned her. My 2013 Mac Pro (not considered early Intel, but eh...) has already been decommissioned, and it's files moved to an M2 Mac Mini. Running an all-Mini "shop" here now- 2009 for development (I'll post pics of this monstrosity in the near future), 2011 for media streaming, 2012 for media serving, M2 for daily use...

... and a problematic 2005 G4 that I *will* get running again, dammit...
Welcome to mini life :) I went all-mini about 8 years ago when I decommissioned my MP2008. I now run 2010, 2011, 2014, and 2014 minis for various purposes. You will definitely feel the change in your wallet!

The PDF scores are displayed regularly just with the regular preview app.
...

Enjoy, musicians !

Laszlo
P.S. Even better!
If, instead of using Apple's Preview app, you open PDFs with the Firefox browser and set the "horizontal scrolling" option in the square >>, you can display two and a half pages and change pages by horizontal replacement (always keeping the current page in the middle). It's much more convenient than flipping through two pages at a time...

See image: Display with Firefox + horizontal scrolling.

It's quite impressive what Firefox can do beyond displaying web pages!

I am currently trying to install at least windows 10 on a Mac Mini 2011.
It looks to be quite tough...
Normal installation sticks will just bring a black screen after 1-2 minutes.
The same occurred with a Windows to Go stick that went black-screen almost immediately.
Finally the only way to get it to work was to make a Windows to Go stick with a MBR partionning.
But that was not the end of the problems.
The Boot-Camp installation refused to run, arguing that it needs Windows 7 !
Installing the drivers one by one worked, excepted the crucial one: the display driver, that refused to install.
So my els working installation ends with a black screen.

Has someone got a clue on how to get Windows 10 to run on that hardware?
Regards
Laszlo
Yes, use Etcher. Good and reliable. Windows 10 and 11

WHYDWAEIMR? Today, the new iFixit battery for the 2013 MBA arrived, so that is fitted and charging/calibrating. Once fully calibrated, will install Al Dente to maximise the life of the battery. At some point, I must dig into both the 11" MBAs and get the displays tightened up a bit. The 2011 is a bit slack but stays where you put it, the 2013 falls back if tilted too far.
The 2013 is running Ventura nicely, much better than I thought it would in 4GB of RAM.

Further to this, I noticed that the keyboard backlight was non-functional. So I tried to re-run root patching via OCLP, and it failed, claiming a mismatch in the version plist - one entry claimed 15.4.1 when it should have been whatever Ventura's last number was. OK, so why not try and upgrade to said 15.4.1? As good a way as any to run the battery back to shutdown before final recalibration charge.
And so it was.
So I'm typing this on Sequoia in 4GB of RAM. It's early on, but so far it is certainly not nearly as snappy as it was in Ventura. I'm guessing that upgrading to the latest Safari queered that plist somehow, but my knowledge really doesn't stretch into such things. I'll leave it on the current OS for the moment. If it isn't too turgid, I'll stick with it. At least I know it will be current for a couple more years!

Headless MacBook Pro M1 and MacBook Air M2 side by side. Intel Macs are stored away for a little while. Enjoying some Appel Silicon.

Mac Mini i7 2012 incoming. Bit of a beater cosmetically, but fully functional.
Intention is to replace the 2011 Mini, and other use that as a server, or dispose of if not.
Meanwhile, 2013 11" MBA is running Sequoia *acceptably* for now.

It is a good machine. 4x USB3, TB etc. I have 3. All server-models which basically means they came with 2 hdd brackets (and hdd's too?) as standard. For the desktop model the second bracket one was an extra accessory. My wife uses one as her daily machine, one is our file server and one is attached to the living room TV. All have max RAM and SSD or 2.

Hmmm. in fact wife's machine has 2 internal hdds which are used for daily backups and an external USB3 SSD which has the OS, apps and her files. This only because it was supposed to be only a test but in the end I got lazy and didn't install the SSD internally as she was happy as it was. ;)

What have you done with an early **INTEL** recently?;) thread . Silicon or Motorola are on the other hand in another thread 😇

😅
S2

What have I done with an early Intel Mac?

1. Put a new battery on an 2013 MacBook Pro 15 inch.
2. Put a new thunderbolt port on 2016 MacBook Pro 13 inch (four thunderbolt ports ver) .
3. Use an Intel MacBook to purchase a headless M1 MacBook Pro (LOL).

I'm going-through the process of decommissioning and wiping my 2015 13" MBP in order to gift Her to a friend.

Not as laborious as I had imagined, but did require a concerted series of steps.

Strange the choices we sometimes make....

Cleaned it. The new-to-me 2012 Mini looked dreadful and was liberally covered in stickers and sticker residue. Half an hour with a cloth and isopropanol, and it's pretty much as new.
Currently running OCLP Ventura from an external drive while I await a kit to add a sevond drive cable.

I took out my MBP 17" 2010 i5 A1297 and upgraded its software on both Mac and Linux side. Been a while so there was lots of upgrading. Mint even had some broken packages which had to be sorted out before upgrading to 21.3. And had reinstall Brave as after awhile it cannot be upgraded but must be reinstalled. This machine was the one that had a badly damaged upper case I swapped to a new one from 2011 MBP. Also has a new battery with 2 cycles.

I am considering selling this one as it really gets too little use. In any case I will transfer the new battery to my other MBP 2010 17".

Nice machine! But likewise, my 2007 17" MBP sees too little use.

Yeah, overall I have too many machines and most of them were interesting projects but are not really used. I think I will thin out my collection and keep the ones I consider really cool myself at this moment.

Same. After the recent death of the late-2011 hi-res MBP, I've decided to really cull those that I really don't need. So to that end, I'll probably lose the 17" as mentioned, 2011 MBA, 2011 Mini. Then again...maybe not.

Yes, same here. I've been making trips to the local computer recycle place to clear out my collection as well. The good thing is this place will re-sell the machines or even add some of them to their museum! Too much clutter in your life is NOT a good thing I believe.

:)

I am also planning to part out my late 2009 27" iMac i5 and sell it in parts. It is taking too much space and as a complete one it is its worth like 50€ max so it is better to sell it as parts to those who want to repair or upgrade theirs. I sold my 2009 27" iMac C2D for spares (broken motherboard) and got 165€ for the parts. And I still have many pieces left. I bought both of these machines new and used them for years as my main machines at home and work until I upgraded to 2011 iMacs.

I also have a broken MBP 15" early 2011, I am sure somebody would be interested in some bits of it.

No point in keeping these taking space anymore.

What have I done? Away from home for eight days, on a very slow internet connection. My daily driver is the 2013 MBA running Sequoia, which it seems to have settled into a bit better now. Certainly usable for basic tasks.
The only other machine I brought was an ASUS S200E 11", which has always been ultra-reliable, but now refuses to talk to the router for longer than 5 minutes. So the MBA becomes the one and only for this trip.

I recently got an original 2,1 Mac Pro and repasted between the heatsink and both cpus which wasn't all that bad. I then installed a 1 Terabyte Sata II SSD from OWC in drive 1 to compliment the 3 spinning disk 7200 Hitachi drives dated August of 2007. A Repasted/Repadded Mac Edition X1900XT was then installed along with a fresh installation of Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 and my copy of Final Cut Studio 2. I'm Keeping the Oddball Amount of RAM installed in the system and plan on just adding 2 more sticks of 4GB 667 to end up at 17GB of RAM LOL.

I am looking at display cards once again.

I was wondering that are Radeon Vega 56 and 64 supported with Intel Macs running OCLP and Monterey as is? Or are Bios flash shenanigans needed? Boot picker? GPU acceleration work?
