Why? is a 2017 iMac with Sequoia not yet a perfect usable machine? What are you missing?
I don't understand this at all. Who owns and uses Macs just to upgrade operating systems? I am running Monterey in my daily drivers and have no interest in upgrading. In fact I rarely use the OS as such other than the features that have existed for long time in most OS versions. I use software I need, the operating system just makes that possible and acts as a mediary between me and the machine and its peripherals.
I just wondered if someone has really got interest in those majestically fails...
Even commercial fails can be good and/interesting machines. Trashcan, G4 Cube, TAM etc.
I wish Monterey worked without annoyances on my Mac mini, MBA M1.
I agree and use my MacBook Air 2010 more now since I need to graphic design many things
Sorry, I don't understand what you are talking about. I've had no problems with Monterey over the years in almost dozen Intel machines. What is this stuff about M1? Are you in the right forum?
The iMac sees use, no problem there, but that's a passing mention as it doesn't count as Early Intel. It was an irresistible bargain at £50!
Well, me. When at home, I mainly use Windows desktops, and, as said, my actual computing needs, as in a very small business, can be and are run on a Celeron netbook. All the Macbooks are essentially toys, although when away house-sitting, I'm usually using the hi-res 2011 15" as a daily driver.
Entirely agree. I do play with Linux a lot, on PCs and the Macs, and will, in future, switch entirely to Linux. I've managed to extend my use of Windows 10 using licensed LTSC versions (no fan of Win 11), but when that ends...Linux, all the way, on all the machines I then have.
That is going to be a real beast of a machine!
OK, should have remembered that neither 2011 15 will work because of the disabled dGPU. Next stop, 2011 13-inch MBP!
I was wondering if you were going to remember the 2011 has a bad GPU. I had the same model with a bad GPU also. I replaced it with the same model (with high res matte display) but 2012 which I still own. I may put Mavericks Forever on it!
The 2011s with bad dGPUs are both running with them disabled in NVRAM. If they were physically disabled, there would be no issue, but that is beyond my skills. Strangely though, if you make up a @dosdude1 patched Catalina install USB, it will work flawlessly on these machines! Certainly always has on my two, anyhow. These machines will not even take their native High Sierra. Once Catalina is on them, OCLP works just fine.
yes, I read last decade that the 2012 MBP had great GPU while the 2010-11 were "ehhhh"
The bad GPU affected the 2011 15", 2012 rMBP 15" and maybe the 2013 15" MBP but none of the 13" MBPs were affected. The 2012 15" cMBP was not affected. I also had a 13" MBP with the dual core i7 and that was a very good machine.
