Microsoft made this "Halo trilogy" in house. You might have heard of it. :)

Bungie made the Halo sextilogy (edit: listing the games - Halo 1, 2, 3, Halo Wars, Halo 3 ODST, Halo Reach). You might have heard of them... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bungie#Halo_and_buyout

Microsoft distributed. That's like saying NBC Makes TV shows. They don't. Other companies make TV shows, NBC distributes them. NBC might own Universal and Universal produces shows, but NBC didn't make them.

Bungie got bought AFTER Halo 1 so if you want to count 2 and 3 as technically made by Microsoft since they were "bungie studios" owned by Microsoft, then you're splitting hairs.

Point being, if you're going to be a dick about facts, at least get them right.

Sure Microsoft bought the franchise but I don't think they got guys in Redmond, Washington working on games.

Sure they did. The game was worked in the Bungie division's offices in Redmond at 1 Microsoft Way. Don't kid yourself. Halo was done internally at Microsoft. (There are infamous stories about Bungie's move onto Microsoft's campus.)

Since Bungie split back off they've moved back to Chicago iirc.

Huh? Bungie was Microsoft. Bungie was bought out by Microsoft. Bungie was simply a Microsoft brand.

Halo Wars was done by Ensemble Studios, which also was a Microsoft brand.

You're saying that even though Bungie was part of Microsoft, that because they were allowed to keep using the studio name it doesn't count. Who's splitting hairs here?

This is much like HAL Labs. HAL Labs is a subsidiary of Nintendo that wrote Smash Bros and got their name on the game, but no one in their right minds would claim that Smash Brothers was not a first party game and Nintendo was simply the publisher.

(Also: Halo 1 was totally rewritten after the Microsoft buyout, by Bungie's own admission. Microsoft's Halo 1 was a totally different game.)

I just want the original Mario and the original Mario Kart on the iPad. I swear, thats all I want

Double ditto on that!! Just give me some Mario, and I'll be overjoyed!!!:p I keep trolling the App store looking for ANY game that would remind me of the original Mario; think I've tried every platform game out there. :(

Microsoft Game Studios

They currently have about ten first party (in-house) development teams.

They include the team that does Halo, the team that does Forza Motorsports, and the team that does Fable. There are also a whole ton of smaller games.

Additionally, Microsoft in house development studios have produced many games since the early Windows days.

Yes, Microsoft develops games in-house.

NBC does and always has made TV shows. Currently the NBC TV studio arm is called "Universal Media Studios" but even before the NBC Universal merger it was called NBC Studios. They have made hundreds of shows in-house for decades. They have predominantly been talk shows and game shows, but they have also made sitcoms and soap operas. Right there in the NBC studios using NBC employees.

It is funny coincidence that you would pick on these two companies because I have personally been inside both, where Microsoft makes games and NBC makes TV shows.

You can't say NBC or Microsoft don't make things because the accountants report earnings in varying ways.

It is really not cut and dried. There are first party, second party, and third party ways to produce things. Most companies any more will be combinations of all three due to insane and complicated legal structuring.

By that logic would the XBox even be considered a Microsoft product?

I would love to have Mario brothers for iPad and iPhone. That would be awesome!!!

The Bungie division of Microsoft in Redmond, yes.

Seriously, I don't know why you keep doing this. I played Bungie games when they were Mac only. I was upset by the buyout too. But Bungie was part of Microsoft.

Again, if you say that Halo wasn't first party, you'd have to say that Smash Brothers and Kirby are also not first party.

Seriously? Google "Microsoft Game Studios".
