Hey what if you take two iPhone X's and put a picture of a face on each lock screen and then face them towards each other. Would it create an infinite time loop that would destroy the space-time continuum?

Another low sarcasm... I respectfully ask that you move on.

And I am not demading that Apple have a solution for every one of life's problems.

Calm down, people, I know there's something deep in your heart that gets offended when you see a post like this, but I am not dissing Apple, nor am I say Apple is responsible for all the world's problems. As an Apple customer and likely future continuing customer, I am just thinking about a product feature. If you have a good answer to my concerns, great. If not, too bad, but don't go thinking I am here trying to bring Apple down with my words or any such. You are completely beating a scarecrow.

Did you mean to reply to me? I’m not at all offended by what you wrote and I’m pretty chill right now. Just replying.

You however, sound a little upset by how others are replying to you.

I have no idea if FaceID will work well, but your example is a little far-fetched.
Ok. Care to elaborate a little on why you think it's far-fetched? Of course, these are just examples. It does not need to be pickpockets and co-workers. I am talking about any similar situations.

So, I take it that if these situations aren't far-fetched or assuming that they are not, we might potentially have a concern. Correct? Of course, I understand that far-fetchedness or not is a big IF here.

I am upset. Because I was hoping to have some serious discussions about what I think is a reasonable and legitimate concern and despite logical comments from me, all I am getting is unhelpful sarcasms and repetitions of the same points. I am not a least bit ashamed of being upset for that reason.

Not sure why it is unrealistic, but I can grant you that. What about the co-worker scenario?
Personally, I don't have that concern. But if I were to be concerned about the co-worker scenario, I would just develop a simple habit of disabling the face id by holding the buttons on either side (a nice small squeeze) when I decide to leave the phone momentarily in the presence of others.

You'll just have to settle with a passcode.
This is actually among the most mature and helpful comments in this thread. Thank you. Yes, if I end up buying an iPhone X, that might be a choice. Not a happy one to make but sure, a possible choice.

Nothing wrong with being upset. But it might be an indicator that one needs to step away for a few minutes.

Hey! That's high quality sarcasm my friend. I dont DO low quality sarcasm. Usually I charge for this.

Plus I already gave you the solution for your Rube Goldberg face ID unlock scenarios: If your co-workers are grifters and reprobates then use a passcode as I said back in the middle of PAGE ONE.

Thanks. I think the discussion may go somewhere with responses like yours. And this is a good point. Maybe developing a good security habits together with Face ID might be an answer to my concerns.

Does anyone else actually believe someone came to the Macrumors forums legitimately to get the answer "use good security habits" as if that's some secret reveletion kept by us Apple fans? This is a wank.

I am upset but not angry or furious. Again, I don't think there is any issue about being upset. One can say things when one is upset just as when one is happy. Please respond (or not) to what I say, regardless of what state of mind I am in. If I start to be rude or offensive to others, that may be when I need to step away a few minutes.

OP,

Are you taking some usless Theoretical elective class this year?!? Because that is a whole lot of crazy and What Ifs!
Sigh...

And yet, that's actually among the best of the answers given here... enough said...

The whole premise of my thread is that the situations I was describing do not appear to be so silly or unfeasible. It appears that you disagree with that assessment. That's fine, I respect it if that is your thinking, but why don't you entertain me and assume maybe the situations I was describing could happen?

Because they are unfeasible, you said what if someone comes into possession of my iPhone X and unlocks it using Face ID while I'm not aware, that won't happen because you have to look at the phone, it needs to detect that you are looking at paying direct attention to the phone.

You then said what about if a work colleague waves the phone in front of you and you don't know that she now has access to your phone, again this won't happen since you have to be paying attention to the phone and looking directly at it.

Apple have spoken about Face ID and how it was created, if your interested you can read up on it, Craig has recently given an interview on Face ID.

Thank you. I know, especially if you pay too much money on a device. Only the passcode security will give you peace of mind.

Ok I give up.

Everyone, enjoy your victory. If there's ever a news story with exactly what I am describing here, I might have a little private moment of vindication or maybe even BUMP this thread then (and don't get me wrong, I wouldn't be hoping for it to happen).

For the time being it seems like I can't get through anyone.

My apologies to everyone who wasted a bit of their time. Sorry about that.

You are the worst type.

No good deed.....

Also, OP, besides the growing sarcasm and rage you admitted yourself you got several good answers including me saying use a passcode since page 1. So, storming off and saying we somehow won by forcing you out before you got what you needed doesnt even make sense.

Unless there was another level to your scenario... maybe something with lasers?

Well, they won't be able to disable Find My iPhone without your iCloud password.
You can remotely track, erase, and disable. Problem solved!
