XP is probably the preferred version of windows. If all you are doing is checking email, writing documents and browsing the web and reading forums, then there isn't much reason to deal with Vista/7.

XP isn't bad in SP3 form, I would call Windows ME or Vista the worst, while Windows 7 is actually pretty damn good.

7 is actually very good, however, I have some older programs that work with XP and don't play well (or at all) with 7/Vista.

Oh no, Microsoft has had several operating system disasters, how can we forget Windows ME and Windows Vista....two fine OS's that defined stability, usability and reliability....not!

Not really, its just much more difficult to find one that works 100% since you can't swap out non-working parts. I recall reading some XPS laptops work great, bu i've not ever tried one myself.
