Great - thanks! I tried downloading the High Sierra installer, but I can’t get the App Store to give me the full version, so I’ll just try his Mojave patcher.
you have to download it via the high siria patchier. the app store wont let you but the patchier will. I’ve recently installed openSUSE Leap 15 onto my MacBook Pro ( 2013 ) and all is working so may be worth a try of that.
openSUSE includes a fairly stock and not tweaked version of GNOME that seems to work well.
