Like copy/paste, I think Apple is taking their time with notifications to make sure they get it right.

Every other major OS has had one for years. No excuse why Apple cant, they just dont want to for one reason or another

Notification widgets, with a timeline of your notifications, some info on where you are like a small map and link to nearby places, weather etc.

I'd also like to see a quick way to switch airplane mode or wi-fi on/off. Swipe the top bar to the right and out drops down some options.

Having the CPU and GPU run at full speed and the brightness increase while on charge would be cool too.

I want the iPhone to mount as a USB storage device to a computer, complete with a finder app for viewing files on the device and the ability to download files off the internet.

Other than what has been mentioned, I'd really like to see a "find on page" feature, especially for Safari.

  • Finder/restricted filing system for docs etc.
  • quick menu for wifi/bluetooth/reset etc.
  • sort out the notifications
  • lockscreen info
  • more cloud investment

Custom sms tones and a better notification system comes to mind quickly enough.

lockinfo would be a huge win as well.

There is a VERY easily, simple explaination for this....

TO SELL MORE PHONES!

Why in god's name would apple put all the features on a phone at once, if they draw out the features, then they can release an iphone 5-123905691234123486 WITH JUST some type of notification drop down or whatever, then another feature or two, etc etc etc etc. and people will flock to buy it.

1) Full AVRCP support.
2) Some sort of limited user-accessible file system for documents, etc.
3) Something like SBSettings.

If I had those three things, I'd be tempted to go un-jailbroken. Until then...

- oh, and being able to change the sms tone because when 5 people in a car all have iphones, everyone has to check their phone to see who got a text lol

There are some different texts tones.. the EMAIL tone needs a few friends to change it up! Try being in an elevator with 10 people who have an iPhone and someone gets an email.

I would really like for apps such as 1password and evernote to work in mobile safari like they do on the desktop.

Only thing I want is Apple's version of QuickReply

They NEED to make that. I have to restore my 3G to unjailbreak it so my girlfriend can have it, so I'm stuck without it for a few days. It's going to be miserable.

Except notifications would be in a software update.

I'd like to see a redesigned Messages app for SMS. The current layout is dreadful. For one, the text should extend across the entire screen à la Tweetie.

Lag? That would be entirely device dependent. Have you played with any of the newer Android phones? I'm willing to bet you haven't. Here's some good clips for you to watch:

It is one of the downsides of having an open platform. With many hardware vendors and devices, performance and the user experience is much more variable. But there are examples of decent running Android devices out there if you look and have an open mind to actually WANT to look.

Scrolling text in the iPod app. There is no excuse for a full song title to not be displayed... the old iPods had this, the iPod Classic has it.

you can do this with bookmarklets - i use different ones all the time. copy this stuff into the url of a bookmark, and it becomes your find on page button. don't remember where i got this one, but thank you to who wrote it!

Code:
javascript:void%28s%3Dprompt%28%27Find%20text%3A%27%2C%27%27%29%29%3Bs%3D%27%28%27+s+%27%29%27%3Bx%3Dnew%20RegExp%28s%2C%27gi%27%29%3Brn%3DMath.floor%28Math.random%28%29*100%29%3Brid%3D%27z%27%20+%20rn%3Bb%20%3D%20document.body.innerHTML%3Bb%3Db.replace%28x%2C%27%3Cspan%20name%3D%27%20+%20rid%20+%20%27%20id%3D%27%20+%20rid%20+%20%27%20style%3D%5C%27color%3A%23000%3Bbackground-color%3Ayellow%3B%20font-weight%3Abold%3B%5C%27%3E%241%3C/span%3E%27%29%3Bvoid%28document.body.innerHTML%3Db%29%3Balert%28%27Found%20%27%20+%20document.getElementsByName%28rid%29.length%20+%20%27%20matches.%27%29%3Bwindow.scrollTo%280%2Cdocument.getElementsByName%28rid%29%5B0%5D.offsetTop%29%3B

It's missing far too much to mention, and whenever you do mention it, you get attacked by the rabid fanboys claiming they don't need it or want it. So sit back and let Apple decide for you what you do and don't need.
