What is jabber? why do i care that ichat will implement it in tiger?

MSN via Jabber in iChat?

So let me get this straight... you can fiddle it so that you can get MSN compatibility in iChat? That's great news! I'll be able to ditch MSN for Mac altoghether and just use the one elegant interface that is iChat. Brilliant news!

still kind of buggy, and if you have a crap load of contacts like i do, its just one massive import all at once

and since its still beta - it crashes alot when in jabber - but iChat via AIm is super stable

Just notice something - if your in a video or auidio conference and yous tart a file transfer, the conference pauses on your end. you can hear what the other person is saying but they cant hear you - if you are in a video conf, he cant hear or see you, but you can hear the other side

apparently it speeds up the transfer

I hope they integrate rendezvous and jabber into the iChat window. Because like this I don't see any point of using iChat over Adium for MSN.
I don't think they will but one can dream...

Yeah, I could imagine it pretty much defeats the object having more than one window. Let's hope they integrate into one nicely. Maybe this is what the tabs will eventually do.

I don't currently use the rendezvous part of iChat because I know no-one with a Mac (but this will change when my brother's iBook arrives and we're both at home ) but it would be nice to see a similar implementation of this too.

downunder msn is used by just about everyone. i'm nor really a fan of it but i don't really have any other option as not many people are going to change just for me. using adium i can't even tell that it is msn though. while this jabber thing is a step in the right direction i'm still not convinced.

i want an isight because i want to be able to use it with my msn-windows loving friends. once apple make it possible for me to chat via an isight with people running both msn and aim on windows, i will buy an isight and be happy with ichat.

but yeah, having all of the services combined through one app...mmmm

only MSN 6 (Windows to Windows) can do audio and video chat. Us Mac users are stuck with MSN 4.0...
