Why would they put most of the SG sport in a May 13 shipping window then?

Because the stateside stock was exhausted. They placed it in the second window. They know, however, that as production ramps up they will be able to ship them sooner. That is what we are seeing now.

I ordered at 12:03. The only change I've had so far is that my credit card was charged just 3 minutes ago. Order still says "processing."

This confirms my theory, however, that 90% of the Space Gray sport watches are already stateside and at distribution centers. Apple knew they were the most popular so they moved them first.

I believe we will get charged/shipping notices beginning today and continuing through tomorrow evening. The watches will be mostly shipped overnight Thursday and arrive at our local centers to be put on trucks for distribution on Friday morning.

That's how it was for many of my iPhone orders (they shipped the night before I received them). I also believe that, as with several of my iPhone orders, many people will get a shipping notification AFTER they receive the watch. Many others might get it only hours before.

Even though my 00:02 order has finally changed to preparing for shipment, I can't go with this theory. What happens if I cancelled my order an hour ago if the watches are sitting at local hubs?

Not necessarily YOUR watch, labeled up... and not at UPS hubs. But at apple partnered distribution centers, on big pallets, ready to go at a moments notice. In theory.

C is the most likely scenario. Look at how many bands have no ship estimates, you can't even preorder. Now look at when the white iPhone 4 came out. It was delayed by like 6 months.

Just throwing money at a problem doesn't fix it.

If there was a manufacturing problem with the space grey watches so severe that it was causing orders to slip a month or more out from when they would otherwise have shipped, I think we'd have heard a leak from some source or other before now about it.

Not necessarily ... again look at the white iPhone 4. Nothing not even a leak about the delay for like 2 months. At one point it just disappeared from pre-order without a word. Then a few weeks after that, the leaks about the home button and flash started to come out.

Look at the modern band, none are available for ordering. Whats the deal with them ?

The manufacturing problems might not be as severe as you are suggesting. But enough to cause a low yield.

Ordered 42mm SG @ 3:01 AM EDT. Confirmation at 3:01 AM EDT. Charged and switched to Preparing for Shipment on Monday. Nothing updated since.

My exact situation...

I'm still confident I'll have a watch on Friday. Always was after getting a preorder in at 12:01 PST.

You don't get a watch, but that's it. It isn't yours yet. It's part of an allotment. If it says "preparing for shipping" then you can still cancel it. It hasn't received a shipping label or been shipped yet.

Again, I say this after multiple experiences with iPhones. People here on the forums were tracking planes from China and finding their packages via UPS.com and I had no notice and couldn't find any tracking info. My order said it was processing. I went to bed with processing, and woke up to a package being delivered. It went from processing to preparing to ship to shipping all while I was sleeping. The entire process took less than 10 hours.

You're fine. You'll get it. It is at a distribution point where shipping times will be minimal to your local UPS/FedEx center.

The OP is likely correct

I remember going to bed bummed one night because my iPhone wasn't going to arrive on time. I had no shipping notices or any change in status. I received it the next morning at 10am and looked at the status page. It had shipped over night from Tennessee, arrived in Phoenix at 3, got to my local center at 4, and was placed on the truck and out for delivery at 6. That all happened without any notice and while I was sleeping.

I agree with the OP's original/first post and this one.

I had the exact same situation with one of the iPhones. Can't remember if it was the 5S or the 6 however all the Verizon orders just sat there and we were not getting movement or tracking numbers until the night before. They all arrived on launch day.

I'm pretty confident my Space Gray Sport is waiting for me at the local distro in Ontario, 2 hours away. Packages usually leave Ontario in the middle of the night, arrive in San Diego the next morning, are on the truck for delivery by 5:30 AM and I get it by 10AM.

Me thinks that Apple is getting smarter about this and sends stock to USA ahead. Unlike in the past when we would get the tracking numbers and watch the flights out of China through Anchorage and finally on to Louisville (?). There they would then be distributed to the state they were going to. It was a lot more fun when they shipped from China and there seemed to be less angst. I know a lot of people sleep better knowing their package arrived in Louisville two days ago and are just waiting for that last leg. Oh well, it is what it is.

You're better off believing those that have been through this several times.

Good luck! It'll be like Christmas!

There were rumours of Apple not being able to "get the white colouring just right" in the iPhone almost immediately after there was a realization there was going to be a delay.

Given the EoD, I'm thinking the OP's theory is not bearing out. Actually, the mfg issue theory is looking much better now. My money is on the black bands being the culprit.

Apple is the most valuable company in the world. It baffles me how some think supply decisions and numbers come from a guy sitting at a desk thinking, "hmmm, I think most people will like this one so lets order this many." No. Apple knows exactly how many watches of each type need to be made. They know this from several of their metrics; including the number of people who have looked at which apple watch and for how long on their website.

This is a supply problem. Production started later than it should have because there was a roadblock in the design process.

Solid reasoning based on experience.

2015/10/04 03:05 est email confirmation for 42 SG.

Zero activity since then.

If it comes Friday, great.

If not? I'll wait and enjoy actually using my phone for the majority of messaging in the meantime.

Got an email from UPS at 1am saying its sent and delivering tomorrow. Then woke up to an email from Apple saying it shipped.

I still haven't received an email from apple or UPS, but my delivery calendar shows it coming tomorrow. It's coming from Rialto, which is about an hour from my house and the UPS hub is right in between my house, so it will leave in today's shipment and be here around 2pm.

Stoked!

I got my order in at 12:03am and i got the email of death, so don't think they are anywhere in the USA. In fact, its probably true that no 38mm space grey have made it to the USA at all because not one has even been charged yet, while the UK has gotten some shipped out. I can't believe it if Apple screws us loyal folk who got up at 3 am or interrupted our honeymoon celebratory dinner to order the watch on their iPhones. Don't give me the delivery window excuse either.

The delivery window is so that people who ordered a bit later get theirs a bit later, not that people who ordered ONE SPECIFIC MODEL get screwed up the ass while everyone else gets at least some of theirs shipped out. What a total kick in the nuts, Apple really punched us in the gut on this one. It just shows apple has ABSOLUTELY no idea what it means to be an apple fan any more, and they have totally taken us for granted. Why they chose to screw over one whole sect of people rather than make a bit less 42mm and throw us a bone, I don't know, but Jobs' death has certainly made things worse.

38mm sgs = 38mm SURELY GOT SCREWED

How dreadful, it could be worse, you could be homeless or starving in a war torn area.

Space Gray, Pink, and SS black should be the most popular. Apple would know this... Slowest to show that they are shipping...

I agree with your thoughts.

No movement on either my 38mm or 42mm Space Gray sport with the equally popular black band.

The 38mm was ordered as soon as their site went live yet May 13-27 is the delivery window.

The 42mm was order at noon on the 10th (EST) with a June shipping window.

My only disappointment was getting up at 3AM for no reason. I was hoping one of them would ship, but no charges on my credit card and nothing from UPS. It's 11:12am EST.

It's either:

A) Apple was completely prepared for the demand on the space gray / black bands, and they had already moved a large number of those into position so they can just overnight them on Thursday....

or

B) Apple was completely unprepared for the demand of the space gray / black bands, and have non in position, available to go out, and we'll forever waiting.

or

C) There was a problem in the manufacturing process on the Space Gray / Black bands that's leading to a shortage.

I have a really hard time believing the largest company in the world, with infinite resources, didn't have enough space gray ready... but. Who knows.

Either B or C are bolstered by the fact that these models moved so so quickly to 5/13-5/27 during preorder, and that occurrences of people's orders moving to preparing for ship seem to be dribbling out.

they send out 38mm in the UK so it can't be an issue with production, they chose not to make more, that much is clear by the fact some went out.

I WANT to believe this, but we would've seen shipping notices by now for a boatload of these if that were the case.

VS, this is pretty much my thinking as well. If there were large quantities of these already in distribution centers, it seems we would have seen either large quantities already shipped, or none until tonight.

Instead, we're seeing them kind of dribble through.

I believe if a black band had been offered as an option for the silver Sport, there wouldn't have been nearly the demand for the space gray.

here's hoping...

What if...

Apple sees the demand for Space Gray in the first 5 minutes of pre-order and ramps up production... and that new inventory is on its way...

here's hoping...

This would be the first time I miss out on Launch Day delivery since I started preordering at midnight for product launches. Hope I get it tomorrow.
