What if...

Apple sees the demand for Space Gray in the first 5 minutes of pre-order and ramps up production... and that new inventory is on its way...

here's hoping...

This theory is so common sensical I wish I had thought about it. With the turnover time in Apple's supply chain they certainly would have built what people have ordered in the two weeks between preorder and ship.

That idea makes sense. The reason for the 2 week gap was to produce as demand called for it.

But in the world we live in.....

. . . there was some issues constraining the ability to produce them. This will be answered tonight by whether or not we see a flood of these orders fulfilled.

2 week pre-order wait...

Yeah they never had a two week gap between preorder and launch date. Its always been one week. Here's hoping they planned it that way and that they spent the past two weeks (10 days?) making what we orders.

Fresh off the assembly line... still warm from the oven :)

Just spoke with a chat agent, he said they're pushing everyone that's order being shipping in June to an earlier date.....I'm guessing maybe mid May? still better than June!

I doubt a manufacturing issue is the fault. They simply underestimated the demand for certain models (Space Gray) and overestimated the demand for others (like maybe the model they're now offering to developers). Jason Snell figures that the people who are getting Apple Watches earlier than estimated are in the latter group. Jason was in the 12:03 am ordering range (Space Gray) and he got the email of death. People like that probably won't get them till next week. Otherwise why send a cover your ass email if they are all sitting in Louisville, Ky. If you didn't even get the email of death and you're still in "processing" and you are like 12:04:41 am (read: me) or later, you are even further in back of the line; you are probably looking at the end of next week or later. There was probably a surge at 12:02-12:03 am and the algorithm freaked out and started dumping us into the second half of May for delivery. It probably won't take that long, but you're probably being unrealistic if you think yours is coming tomorrow.

Exactly. An issue making black rubber bands? Absurd. An issue painting aluminum black? Questionable. The real reason is probably because we have such a small number compared to other models that they decided we have the smallest combined voice so it was best to screw us and give out blue-banded sport watches because they made too many.

My theory holds true. Just received my shipping notice, delivery is tomorrow.

So in the last 15 hours I went from "Processing" to being charged, to "preparing to ship" to "shipped."

Again, most of these watches were stocked here already. Many people should be seeing lots of movement on these watches assuming:

1. they ordered early
2. they haven't had much movement up to this point.

Are you 42 or 38?

Given the EoD, I'm thinking the OP's theory is not bearing out. Actually, the mfg issue theory is looking much better now. My money is on the black bands being the culprit.

Seeing the reports of Black band discoloration and peeling, I think I may have nailed this one. Hopefully, they've got the issue under control and are shipping/ramping up ones without problems.
