By now virtually all the features of iOS 17 have been unveiled. What important features are still missing in iOS in 2023?
I don't mean small improvements, customizations, but really important functions and features.

My list:
- Split Screen Support
- Apple Pencil Support (at least for Plus and Max Models)
- Native PRO Camera App

  1. There desperately needs to be a way to invite guests to access my smart home devices and to pick and choose which they can use, with the ability to easily revoke access once they have left. It's annoying to share access to each device per app when I could just give them a "Guest Pass" in the Home app
  2. It would be nice to customize the bottom tab of the Home app instead of the default "Home | Automation | Discover" layout. It would be convenient to have options such as "Rooms", "Cameras", "Activity/History", etc. instead of burying some of them through scrolling or multiple taps
  3. Assigning Nicknames within iMessage Group Chats
  4. The ability to write actual reviews in Maps. Thumbs Up and Down on a few select categories isn't really a good way to rate a business
  5. This one is just me, but a dedicated iCloud app to access functions like Hide my Email easier.

Customizable battery charge thresholds.

Since new, I have been taking the phone off the charger when it hits 90%. These days I use a Home automation and a smart plug to stop charging at 90%. My iPhone 13 Pro is 2 years old and still shows 100% battery heath.

It is beyond me why this simple and logical feature is not baked into the OS. Yes, I am aware of the cynical reasons ;) But still......

I know this may possibly be a bit niche, but profiles. This idea may be more supported for iPad OS specifically, but with a toddler or even if it was someone asking to borrow my phone real quick something like a guest mode which has customizable apps that can be displayed with something like the phone app only having the keypad available so past calls and what not can be seen.

Overall, I am quite satisfied. I was the same with iOS 15, 14 and 13. Dark Mode was what I mainly missed, pre iOS 13. My wishes are just "nice to have" and they are not in a prioritized order.

1. Possibility to change the notification sound on 3rd party apps (not all apps support changing the notification sound)

2. Option to reset "Life Time" in the Mobile Data menu

3. Option to customize the App Library

4. Ability to edit title, album and artist in Apple Music directly in iOS.

5. This one is controversial. A button that can close all apps at once. I know it doesn't benefit the battery, but still. I also think that a lot of people who help their grandparents with their iPhones would appreciate this feature. If Apple is afraid that people will close their apps all the time, and thus experience bad battery life. Then the button can appear when, for example, there are 20+ apps open.

6. Option to install 3rd party apps (can't wait for them to open here in the EU)

7. Option to change the shortcuts on the Lock screen. I want a shortcut to my Ring Camera and my driver's license app.

8. Live view of who is writing in the status bar, just like TypeStatus in the good old Jailbreak days. I don't think Apple will ever release this feature.

9. Better battery management. Option to stop charging at 80%, instead of the phone having to learn my pattern itself.

10. The option to delete previously downloaded apps from the App Store. Not just hide, but completely remove the connection between the individual app and one's Apple ID. This is possible in the Google Playstore, I don't think it's all science fiction.

11. Option to remove previous subscriptions that are no longer active. Again, not hidden - removed completely.

12. Private Relay throughout iOS, and not just in Safari.

Oh, I have another one: I would like them to overhaul iCloud Photos. The way it behaves when it syncs, especially huge libraries (I have 50k+ photos), is still unacceptable to me. Look at Google Photos and copy them, if necessary. Just... hire someone who is able to build cloud services that really scale.

This was one of my favorite features on Android. I'm so used to just closing apps by swiping up (I know people say you don't need to do that, but maybe it's just an anxiety thing) but to have a button that can do it all at once would be hugely beneficial.

System wide, customizable EQ

I agree 100%.

As an aside, the lack of a proper EQ is one of the reasons I use Spotify instead of Apple Music.

Spotify's EQ isn't brilliant, but it's better than Apple Music's list of, at best, crappy presets.

At this point, sideloading and alternative app stores are pretty much the only thing missing. Sideloading would open up so much new possibilities for iOS, and is the last thing keeping Android users from switching.

Oh I agree. I wish images I saved didn't go to "Camera Roll". Camera roll should be things I took with my camera. And if I move the images to a folder, why do they stay in camera roll. I wish images were managed more like Android.

True that. I own a Samsung Galaxy S23 (oh the shock! I got it for free at work so I thought I might as well play with it), and even that thing manages photos better than iOS. Nevermind that the camera is absolute potato quality 😂 but the cloud management is way better.

This so much. I can create a shortcut to send a notification at 80% but I want a built in setting that does this or maintains 80% (or 50-90%) charge.

The phone says it learns but I don't trust it because I've never actually seen it stop charging at 80%. At about 90-95% it starts to slow down but not at 80%....maybe it does a little but the phone will still hit 85-90% real quick.

But that's the thing. It wouldn't be 'hugely beneficial', it would encourage useless behavior by people who don't know (or don't care) how their phone works.

- Truly customisable notifications. Or a way to quickly turn on and off all notifications for an app, for example it could be an option in the menu that pops up by long-pressing the app icon.
- Sideloading apps.
- Being able to open the camera by double-pressing the Power button. I use Apple Pay a lot but I would rather be able to capture something in an instant and instead use a lock-screen button to activate Apple Pay. Double-pressing the Power button is just so much faster.
(Though I heard rumours that iPhone 15 will have an extra action button- hopefully it's true and can be mapped to the camera.)

Ability to block aliases ('numbers' that don't have a phone number, and are essentially spammers that use this inability to send spam messages to iOS users).

Ability to upload mp3 or other audio files to the phone without having to get a PHD. Both for listening and for creating custom alarms.
