Agreed, this, +1, QFT, what have you.

I think a better discussion would be in terms of best SNL sketch rather than episode. Whenever I've talked about SNL with my work colleagues, we've always referred to individual sketches or "sketch series" (e.g. Mister Robinson's Neighborhood, Church Chat, Samurai, Celebrity Jeopardy).

EDIT: Oh, wait, I didn't actually name any fave sketches, did I?
Well, the original cast (Murray/Aykroyd/Belushi) was a little before my time. More of my faves came afterward.
* James Brown's Celebrity Hot Tub (Murphy)
* Janet Reno meets Janet Reno (Ferrell and the real Janet Reno)
* It's A Wonderful Life -- The Alternate Ending (Dana Carvey)
* National Terrorist Hotline (Robert De Niro in one of the most hilarious SNL intro bits ever)
* Lazy Sunday aka The Chronic - WHAT - cles of Narnia
* Just about any Celebrity Jeopardy featuring "Sean Connery" (Darrell Hammond)

I must give props to a very recent SNL Weekend Update sketch featuring "Jimmy McMillan" from the Rent Is Too D*** High Party. This short bit finally gave Kenan Thompson something to be remembered for-- it was absolutely spot-on.

yes for sean connery! those things are the best!

Yeah, Hammond was great as well. I loved his Connery and Bill Clinton. I always liked it when the real people came on the show while the cast members were doing their version. I remember when Alex Trebek came on during Celebrity Jeopardy and when Janet Reno came on during Janet Reno's House Party. Jim Breuer used to do a Joe Pesci talk show and one time he had Jim Carrey on doing De Niro and the real Pesci and DeNiro came on. It was pretty funny.

Yes, these were some gems, in retrospect. "I hear the Pwesident is weewy, weewy warge. Wet's wissen in..." :)
That was from "The Pepsi Syndrome." My favorite Baba Wawa bit had her interviewing Marlena Deitrich (Madelaine Kahn). Half the time, either they didn't understand each other. "I've had evwything wifted, even my weah." "Your weah?" "Weah?" "What?" "Dwop it.":D

cheri oteri and will ferrell as cheerleaders.

God, I couldn't stand either one of them, in almost any sketch (okay, Farrell as Alex Trebek was passable). I stopped watching SNL during this period; it just seemed too juvenile and self-conscious.

I love that Frankenstein. The skits with Frankenstein, Tonto, and Tarzan still crack me up. I still remember one where they did Christmas carols and the "Thanksgiving good, fire bad!" skit.

I remember the one they did where Hartman almost loses it -- I think it was a talk show with Frankenstein, Tonto and Tarzan being interviewed by Nora Dunn. Watching Hartman try to hold it together made me lose it.

What is that show? Is it like Later with Jools Holland here in the UK or something?

Norm MacDonald did a GREAT impression of Quentin Tarantino and Burt Reynolds in a 1997 skit.
It's available streaming on Netflix. Season 23, episode 11 (Samuel Jackson).

every saturday there is a different famous person that hosts it and they have funny sketches and skits and parody commercials and parody music videos and stuff like that.

Ah, I see. Thanks! I'd forgotten I'd asked that question, actually!
