My biggest complaint is the wait till mine arrives :)

I'm pretty tired of the negativity. If you don't want it don't buy it.

So I'll put you down as 'other' :)
Naturally I won't buy something I don't want.

IMO, there's nothing wrong with opinions, positive or negative.
This forum and it's comments should accurately reflect the true mood of the MacRumors community.
As long as discussions are civil and without personal insults.

I haven't really seen anyone else complain about this, but the trackpad is so big that when I type, I frequently click on something with the trackpad because I have tap to click on. I had to turn tap to click off and that's been a minor annoyance.

Not that many people have them yet - maybe you'll hear more of it when more of them are in the wild

I think its more important than that. I think Apple themselves probably do check forums like this to see what consumers think. I've never heard of them doing any kind of market testing (which might explain a few things). But yeah, I reckon if new products are not shifting they would incognito come on here and other fora to see why.

Price is the main one (especially on the lower end), but ports is related. If they would have came out with aggressive price points and said something like "because we simplified the IO with these incredible versatile ports it allowed us to trim size, weight and price" it would have made it more acceptable.

Would have like to seen better starting points like:
12" MacBook - $999
13" MBP wo/touchbar $1199/$1299
13" MBP w/touchbar $1399/$1499
15" MBP wo/touchbar $1799/$1899
15" MBP w/touchbar $1999/$2099

It's just that damn keyboard. I don't mind all ports being updated because I would do the same if I was in their place, even though they should phase out older ports one at a time to avoid backlash and criticism. The complete transition to TB3 should have taken place across two revisions to allow the public to prepare.

I think the poll results speak for themselves. Price is the #1 issue. I think most of us were prepared for a price increase (especially with the 12" MacBook priced so high) but the amount of increase caught us by surprise. That's the only thing that stopped me from making a preorder immediately after the event. It's hard to talk yourself into spending $1800 when you were prepared to spend $1500.

I guarantee you that if Apple dropped the price of the MacBooks to go along with the price drops for their USB-C dongles and LG displays, this forum would be a lot more positive. Even a 15% price drop would change the whole mood.

Yes, but Apple has already sold a crapload of these MacBook Pros.

I think I read that this has been their most successful MacBook Pro launch to date.

Meh. Propaganda sales talk.

my big issue with the laptop is the whining

that awful whining noise that comes from the device when it's announced

you can hear it right now, on this very forum thread

it's truly awful, the whining

You probably shouldn't have clicked into this thread so

No, you read Apple PR spin to sound like it, you read that it has the most ->online<- launch sales ever. But considering it's preorder online only... Only the next quarterly report with real sales numbers will tell how bad/successful it is (and considering the pent up demand, the following quarterly report is properly the most correct measuring bar).

Apple is going to lose a lot of customers who can't afford $1000+. They need to make the 12" netbook cost under $1000 and I think a lot of the price complaints will go away. I'm at the opposite end, I want to pay any price to get the most premium parts. LPDDR3 ram is the least premium, slowest ram available so this mbp update is a nonstarter for me. They should have just called this a "macbook" because it makes some serious performance compromises. In 1 single move apple has pissed off their budget users and their power users. They probably already calculated they can make more money without budget users or power users.

Ah... I love tap to click. I wonder how I may adjust...
Yeah I'm not sure either. The best way to prevent it while not having to change the way I type is turning off tap to click, but I hated it. I ended up turning it back on and trying to keep my palms off the trackpad. This may not even be a problem for you if you type without resting your palms on the computer. I mean, I don't rest them on there all the time either, but sometimes I'll accidentally graze over the trackpad and bam, it registers as a click because I have tap to click on :(

the price was very difficult to stomach, but other then that, no real complaints.

it was expected adopt USB-C, I was just excited to hear that all four ports would be TB3 compliant, which is nice. can't wait to update some of my old peripherals and see what else the market will come up with. the trackpad has always been a favorite of mine, and the screen is also a plus. SD card slot was not that big of a deal since I have a card reader anyway.

but yeah, the price is quite steep. i didn't want to wait as I needed to replace both my iMac and Macbook Air, and the new macbook pro is the best compromise to replace both, which in the end, is still cheaper than buying a separate 5K iMac and retina Macbook.

i expect this machine to last me another 5 to 6 years, so in the end, it will be worth it.

For a moment i thought you were talking about coil whine that plagues the Dell XPS series

Just because people ultimately decided on the purchase doesn't mean price was not a concern for them.

For me, not crazy about the keyboard on the model in the store. BB did not have the one with the touch bar. For some crazy reason I like the lighted apple LOL. My MBP works just fine, so I probably won't be buying another laptop right now.
I do want to see how the touch bar works, whenever they become available here.

Lack of 32GB option
Pricing of SSD and RAM upgrades that are available (go price a Thinkpad currently and you'll find upgrade pricing below retail pricing, not 4-5x retail)
Current CPU/GPU performance vs pricing
Lack of innovation in keeping a magsafe/TB3 combo port

I like the TB3 added ports/performance, updated screen, Touch ID, faster SSD read performance, but I won't be buying a new MBP until at least 2 of those above are resolved. Had $ in hand for a new 15" 1TB+ 32GB system, but no go, so 'upgraded' to a (used) 2015 15" 1TB 16GB MBP instead until they get it right.

My biggest complaints are price and RAM, but I understand the reason they max out at 16GB and it will probably never be an issue for me anyway. Just would be nice to have the extra headroom since I don't update often. There is some sticker shock when you start adding upgrades to it, but I got one anyway. The interest free 18 month financing made it easier to swallow.

The ports are not a problem for me ( I am accustomed to using ports) and I have never used the keyboard, so it is hard to even comment on that.

This might surprise people, but my biggest issue with it is I find it still on the heavy side. I picked one up yesterday. It's lighter than my 2015 Pro sure. and smaller. But, it's still nowhere near what the 12 inch feels like. If portability is your thing, I would say wait until they respec the 12 inch. Unless you need all that processing power on the go of course, which I personally don't.

wait what? Last time I checked it was more expensive to upgrade nvme SSD on Dell Latitude or Thinkpad P50 than on 2016 rMBP. We must've been lookin at something entirely different, with perhaps a parallel universe involved. Thinkpad's 1TB ssd costs 1020$ [although now discounted at 675$] vs. Apple's at 800$

Sufficient for you?
Do you think when Apple gives us a 32GB option it will be less than Lenovo's ECC 16-32GB option?
How about pricing from 512GB->1TB?

This is exactly what is wrong in these forums. Apple is not a budget friendly company. Just think about it. Who spends 800+ on a cell phone ? Those same people can throw down a couple thousand for a laptop.
Imho Apple should drop all products that are reasonably priced and make the poor folk march down to Dell. Out with the whiners.
If you are a "pro" then you are going to be expensing the laptop anyway so price should be inelastic. The majority of complaints about the price here are from the dying middle class non-pros who are sad they can't afford the new laptop and pissed that Apple doesn't allow them to buy something cheap that they can pop in higher components from Amazon at bargain basement prices.
