However I do have the HTC weather plugin on my lock screen :)
I've got the same HTC weather/time widget on my lockscreen. It's a quick glance to see the time and temperature. Nothing wrong with that.

Here are just a few

This is why I don't like widgets. It makes the screens look messy and cluttered. I own androids so need to post screen shots telling me what they look like.(if that was directed at me) you also have a widget for mail and yet a icon on a different page. Same with messages. Why??? Makes absolutely no sense. You can get to the app through the widget. This is why I prefer iOS over android. It's clean and neat and while some will say boring I disagree.

Most people have those weather widgets cause they look pretty.

As for widgets in general, they provide an instant information without having to do anything, they are quite useful.

I like to know what the weather will do. I used to get rained on a lot before I started checking BBC Weather whenever I went out on long walks. Now I don't get rained on. So I win!

I'd love to see the upcoming 3 day forecast for my current location, top 5 notifications and number of unread emails on my lock screen on my iPod.

It's wasted space. It tells you the day, the time (why would you need to check the time when you can just look at a clock elsewhere. Open your front door and check the sun dial!) and shows you a wallpaper graphic.

I'd say it's pretty wasted space! It'd be nice if the option was there to either have nothing or something on your lock screen.

The lock information is different than widgets. IMO. Widgets are for the main screens and I seriously doubt Apple will change the current format. In Post 24 I addressed how I imgine it could be implemented.

The only thing I'd like to see is a dynamic icon for the weather app. I wish the icon showed the current temp - like the calendar app shows the day. Other than that, it really doesn't matter. A weather widget? Meh. Good for people with OCD, I guess...

This would be perfect. Have the dynamic icon show temp with the background of the icon showing a graphic of the conditions (eg: a sun for sunny, cloud for cloudy, etc. etc.).

Also, wouldn't mind taking that a step further and having an "at a glance" ability. Maybe have the first tap give you an "at a glance" 5-day forecast without completely opening the app, while a second tap fully opens the app. Just an idea.

You mean like this..

Its called 'Weather Icon' and 'LiveClock' and I agree that it should be part of the default IOS.

Fandroids are incapable of looking at the time on top of the screen and looking outside at the weather.

Must be nerds with very bad eye sights. =p

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_6 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8E200 Safari/6533.18.5)

I just wish the weather and clock icons updated the same as the calendar. It's not always 73 degrees at 10:15 or whatever the icons display. It almost annoying and easy enough for apple to change.

YOu can have them auto refresh mine are for like every three hours but there is a little button in the bottom to refresh

I agree with the OP and I'm a weather nut.

If you're going to look at the weather, LOOK at it.. don't half-ass it with some lame, obtrusive widget.

A brilliant idea indeed! The calendar is already "live" but it'd be nice to see other apps follow.

:( at "fandroid"
:( at the rest.

Looks like a lot of people in this thread live in a place where weather remains the same. A lot of people don't.

Nice, but i don't want to Jailbreak (and don't feel that it should be necessary).

Most of the complaining i see here makes it sound like all the widgets are mandatory and do nothing but clutter up the screen. If you don't need the widget, don't use it. Use only the ones you like/need.

Thats the beauty of choice you dont want it dont put it on

Last phone I had was a Droid Incredible. By default, it came with the huge weather widget on the home screen that constantly updated and sucked the battery dry, so I removed it.

The only useful widget for me was the calendar, but you had to swipe to a different home screen in order to see it- so it required the same number of steps as merely pushing on the calendar icon on the iPhone to bring up the calendar. Not really much of a convenience.

You've all seen that slack jawed dude with shorts and a t-shirt at the hardware store when it's 39 degrees out. He looked out side and said "yup, it's sunny! Shorts and t-shirt! (or wife-beater).

Don't let this happen to you. Get a widget.

You don't need a widget, just common sense.

jailbreakers are really android fans in disguise because they want “their” phone their way, which is very unApple. We all know Apple tell you how you should do things. =p

.... a weather widget???? People that love android always seem to bring this up. I get the calendars and messages but weather? Really?? Even if you travel(I do) it just isn't nessesary. I would much rather open a app to check the weather where I'm going then have it constanly trying to update. To those that don't travel, here's a tip. Look up from your phone.

I'm really interested in hearing what everyone has to say about this.

To me it's just a waste of resources on a phone and I'm tired of it being brought up like it's some great feature. It's not. At least to me.

One mocks what one doesn't understand. It's a hell of alot easier to just glance at your phone without opening apps. If you live in the Midwest or Northeast or you work outdoors then you know how important a weather widget can be.

I wouldn't mind widgets, perhaps on the lock screen or the Spotlight page, but I live in Scotland. The forecast: it's gonna piss it down with rain (and/or sleet, and/or hail and/or snow). And it will be windy.

Living in south Louisiana the weather changes fast. An old saying in Louisiana is 'If you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes it will change". So a weather app on the home screen would be nice to have.

Weather changes here often too, so my weather icon is very helpful. Over the past week or so, we have alternated from no-jacket 60°+ weather, to bundled-up 25° weather.

The "go open the door" technique is a lame excuse. I live in an apartment, and I have to go downstairs to go outside. Much faster to just take a quick glance at my phone (without even unlocking it) to see whether I need to wear my hat/scarf/etc. I need to know this because I gotta take my dog for a walk. Just looking out the window cannot tell you this.

Looking at the weather also determines which car I drive to work. This requires opening an app and loading the weather though, which takes a lot longer than a simple glance at the screen. So in this case, no widget for me. But I still need to know, because if there is any chance of snow at all, no Camaro today. A few days ago it was 65°, yet this morning was a "winter weather alert"... so yes, it's important to stay updated.

If you don't care, or are content with simply not knowing, that's fine. But other people rely on this type of information, more out of necessity rather than "fascination" as you put it, so don't discount their phone usage based on your own ignorance.
