Can somebody explain to me the hype around used iPhones with Flappy Bird on them? Since Flappy Bird cannot be downloaded anymore I see suddenly iPhones with Flappy Bird on Craigslist and eBay for thousands of dollars ...

What is this about? Why this hype?

And anyway - what value would an iPhone with Flappy Bird have for me? Would I not have to set the iPhone up as new before I can use it and therefor lose all apps that are on it?
demand is high and lack of supply. hey that rhymes ;)

simple....supply and demand.

that's the reason why ebay is pulling the auctions. under their terms you must sell phones wiped clean before the other user gets it. So ebay is pulling them as they are selling as is so the game stays on the phone.

As anyone actually sold their phone with it and made a lot more money than the actual phones worth?

Rage uninstalled after two days of flappy ***** bird!! No game should make you want to throw your phone in the bath and drown it!

The Developer has asked us to silence our opinions on this game. Out of respect for him and his wishes, I shall do so.

I simply don't believe this is what he did. In fact, the man is a ****ing genius for pulling this game. Why?

1. The tubes he used were under suspicion, and nintendo was preparing to sue due to using them.

2.When taking a game down from the app store, the developer stills earns revenue from iAd.

3. The announcement took the internet by storm and many rushed to download it, thus equalling more revenue for the developer.

4. Variations were coming out that users were downloading.

Seems to me that he took the take your money and run approach.

Except Nintendo wasn't doing anything like that: https://www.macrumors.com/2014/02/10/nintendo-flappy-bird/

What is the hype about used iPhones with Flappy Bird?

Wow the whole "I refuse to talk about it because the developer wants us to" is a bunch of BS. If he didn't want people to talk about it then you don't make and publish a game. I don't care how tired he got from the publicity, you don't release something to the public and then ask for them to never speak of it. That would be like Steve Jobs saying a few months after the iphone was release that "oh hey guys, we released this, it's become too much of a hassle buzz wise so please I ask everyone to no longer talk about the iphone. Like it or not, intended or not, he created a internet fad/buzz. He should have been WELL aware that releasing anything on the internet to the public can do so on a whim. Besides, he never personally told me to not talk about Flappy Birds!

Look at the completed listings of those phones that were sold with Flappy Bird. A bunch of 0 feedback scammers who will never pay. No one is actually paying a premium for an iPhone with that game.

Thanks, though that's not very convincing. The author seems to thing that unless an app becomes popular at launch that hacking is involved if it becomes popular later.

Dude,

don't doubt it.

Its already accepted as part of the official canon of the Flappy Bird mythology.

Am I the only one who didn't play this dumb game? Lol

By the way where did all the hype come from?? The game came out on Jan of last year didn't it?

My son showed it to me, I glanced at it, said " uh, huh...." That's my only experience with it. I didn't even consider downloading it when I heard it was going to be pulled. So no, you are not alone. I'll buy you a coffee some time and we can talk about anything, except Flappy F$&king Bird.

Even if someone really cares about this so much there are so many copycat apps already out (some that are almost exact copies) that it's beyond irrational to so something like actually pay for a phone with the "original" game on it just for the game essentially.

Quick question about Flappy bird. Thinking of going back to iOS. If I do a restore from a previous version of my iPhone that had Flappy Bird on it, will it still restore or not since the game has been removed?

You can re-download the app. Simply open the App store on your device, click updates, click purchases, and it should be under purchases.

With all due respect - that is ridiculous. And why did you answer at all, then?

There are some very highly paid spokesfolk whose only comment is 'No comment.' And affronted politicians often say, "I wouldn't dignify that charge with a reply," which of course they just did.

I now withdraw the comment just previous and ask everyone to ignore it utterly forever, amen.

I bought a 5s (with flappy bird) installed for $1300.. I think I got a deal compared to what I saw on eBay. My high score is a 55!
