so I just switch over to the 13 mini from the 13PM now I must admit I am liking my mini a lot but what are we going to do after this? I dont think or see apple making a new mini for a while?

I mean do we just get the normal iPhone 6.1 screen?

I would not start worrying or making plans now. Your new 13 mini will still be with you in 3 or 4 years unless you are the type who must change phones every year. Who knows what Apple or Android makers will be offering a few years from now.

Agree. Nothing wrong with making plans now of course, but it does mean you‘re not now but in the future in the now where you cannot enjoy your mini because it is now

Well, the idea that there will be no iPhone 14 mini does not mean that we won’t have some other sub-6.1” iPhones. There were rumours that Apple might release a 5.7” SE variant in 2023. Besides, Apple still might sell 13 mini once iPhone 14 are out. To be seen.

Literally no reason to worry about Apple’s lack of plans to release another small phone. I have been using a Gold SE ‘16 for the last few days testing out a new battery and the chip is fine on iOS 15.4.1. The phone is snappy when browsing web-pages and runs all my media apps perfectly. I have a 12 Mini but I am not bothered about going back right now as I am enjoying the SE so much. The Mini 12 & 13 are going to be fine for another 5-6 years. I believe Apple will release another small phone by then.

Who knows, perhaps the SE and the Mini line may be amalgamated so that a new one is released every 2-3 years with updated specs.

Pretty amazing that your SE ‘16 is still fine and snappy on iOS 15. With only 2 gig RAM. Happy for all owners of a SE ‘16 or newer ’old’ iPhone

I agree with @Expos of 1969 (post 2) -- There's a lot of years in your 13 Mini's future. Additionally, as others have mentioned, if you're the type of person that likes to get a new phone annually (which is perfectly OK ?) Apple has always had a smaller device available. The future looks pretty rosy if you ask me!

I hope they do a bigger push on chip efficiency in the coming years so good battery life doesn't have to be a trade-off for a reasonably compact phone. that (along with refresh rate) was the main thing that drove me to getting a 13 pro. even after several months I still view the size and weight as a downgrade for a mobile device coming from an iPhone 7.

2GB RAM is fine if you don’t have millions of apps open at the same time. I don’t really do that even with my 12 Mini so I’ve no issue with the SE. I was amazed myself when I brought my old phone collection out a month ago to see that they were still viable options in 2022. I don’t think iOS 16 will be made available on the SE or 6S unfortunately so this’ll likely be the last 6 months of support. The only clear and obvious downgrade is the camera, even the rear shooter is a mess compared to the modern iPhone cameras. Any indoor lighting or dimly lit environment produces noticeably poor shots.

I guess Apple will eventually pick up the „Mini“ line again when they can deliver the Mini people wanted from the start: a smaller version of a normal iPhone with no downgrades. That’ll happen with time as battery technology will improve or even be revolutionised and power efficiency will further increase.

When I bought my Xs Max it seemed a good idea at the time. But coming from a X, the Xs M felt soon as an downgrade due to size and weight. Hence once every few months I use my X a few days or weeks, making my wife feel sorry for me. Since she has a 13 mini even my X appears as a ‘downgrade’, and I can hear my wife sometimes say desperately ‘Can I get my phone back please?’

Yes the smartphone camera has evolved a lot. Hard to imagine that many of us were (I was) impressed by the quality of the shots of the SE1 and also of the 5S and 4S when the phones were launched.

Perhaps only the 6s will lose support in 6 months and the SE1 will get iOS 16 since the 6S was launched one year earlier than the SE1?

The SE1 is a mini 6S. Same processor and RAM. They’re both gunna get culled at the same time some point in the future on a newer version of iOS.

This is true. Although there are notable differences, at their core they are the same animal - just like the SE3 (2022) and the 13s.

I'll probably suck it up and get a 6.1" phone tbh. At least the current ones are better than the chunky Xr / 11 form factor.

I’m also tossing around the idea of upgrading to a Pro Max for the first time. It took me a good while to get used to the 6.1 coming up from 5.8 but it feels perfectly natural nowadays; seems it would stand to reason that I’d feel the same about a max given enough time.

I'm ready for a larger device, when I decide to replace my current 5.8 device it will definitely be with a Pro Max
I have larger devices - an iPad and MBA if I need larger screens, but when I’m out and about, I want something more pocketable and lightweight. I don’t spend a lot of time with the screen trying to read things. I’m either doing something or when I’m at home, I use a different device.
