Wish list for the 13":

  • User-replaceable PCIe SSD
  • 16GB RAM
  • Better than Iris as a GPU, even Iris Pro would be amazing although an nVidia chip would be even more amazing and definitely "wow" -factor
  • Thunderbold 2
  • USB 3.1 (Is this released yet??)
  • Even with the modifications above, manage to have better batterylife
  • Even with the modifications above, become cheaper

Well, failed on the GPU and USB part. Not sure about the SSD part yet but all in all, nice updates!!

How on Earth did you come to that conclusion?

Which? That aluminum is a fairly soft metal or that liquidmetal is more durable?

Aluminum generally bends and stays bent. My 5-year-old aluminum Macbook has little dents and dings that on a plastic or magnesium laptop would have probably not left permanent marks.

Liquidmetal's durability properties can be seen from videos on their website. It's a 'bouncy' metal that can bend and spring back to its original shape.

Well, I am over the moon and the computer is on order! I only asked for 16GB RAM and would have been happy with 750GB SSD but there's a 1TB option! I last bought a computer in 2009 (13" MBP w/ 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD) and it stood the test of time. I needed more RAM and a larger drive and refused to part with cash until I got what I wanted. In the past, I have bought iterative upgrades, but this time I waited and it paid off. Once again, I purchased the top of the line because that is what will make it work for me the longest so in reality spending more now, saves me more later. Should be here next week...
