I'm going to try this one more time then I'm moving on.

Please do as you said and move on. I've already told you everything I have to say about the subject and made my point. You might get it, or you might not. In any case, I'm not gonna waste time repeating them since you're gonna keep giving me the same pointless response without reading and understanding what I wrote, as if I'm interacting with a bot.

iOS 7 is the building base for the next 5 years' worth of updates. Everything moving forward will be an iteration of iOS 7 just like iOS 2-6 were of iOS 1.

Apple wants everyone to hop on board now and come along for the ride. Really, its baffling to me why people would want to stay on iOS 7 but its already been pointed out it doesn't matter why - only that people have the right to stay.

In the end - people will complain about iOS 8 and every OS for the rest of forever. Maybe let's stop giving them the spotlight.

Microsoft ALWAYS support older software. They supported Windows 95 and 98 until 2006. Windows XP was only just ditched this year. Users of Windows 7 have until 2020 before they'll be ditched.

2020 would be an understatement because people hate Windows 8. Unless they fix it to be an acceptable new version, they're gonna have a hard time dropping support for it even in 2020. But I think they will have fixed it by then. That's the MS way, release a crap version, get negative feedback and then release the proper one :)

So it seems like they restore the iPhone after the repair. And with such a restore every iPhone gets the new software.

Nope, they actually wipe/restore/update your phone before they even diagnose the issue.

The diagnostics process involves wiping the phone, and installing an app onto your phone to perform a hardware test. This app needs iOS 7 to run, and your phone needs to be "re-provisioned" in Apple Configurator to install it.

This is why your phone is updated to 7.1 during the repair process.
