Just as difficult as it is to understand that $499 iPad should never be compared to XOOM. The better comparison would be to reported WiFi only XOOM ($539). With 2x RAM, SD Card slot, USB port, real cameras etc. I'd say many will consider XOOM a better value.

You mean the SD card slot that isn't functional yet? Flash was promised but isn't working yet. Only ~100 apps. Not to mention that the 3G version requires a month of data to unlock the WiFi feature and will require the owner to ship the product in when the upgrade to 4G happens. How sure will owners be that they will get timely updates of Honeycomb?

How much value lies in a product that sells on promises but ships half-baked?

I really hope competitors make great devices to force Apple's innovation pace. The Xoom just doesn't seem like it will do so. Speeds and feeds don't mean much in this case.

What an android fanboy. This guy makes absolutely no sense.

how is he an android fanboy when he's rockin a macbook just behind him? i think he made some valid points, and he made sense as he's given his reasons and opinions. and as much as i like apple products just like you guys, i do agree that when honeycomb gets the kinks ironed out, it'd be good competition for apple. it didn't take the android mobile market that long to grow.

My thinking is that Apple can produce an iteration of iPad with equal or better specs than the Xoom but it will have to come with a hefty price tag crossing the 1K barrier....and that alone is what Apple don't wanna do. Sure, there will always be a segment of consumers that will always buy an Apple product regardless of its price.

Marketing and business policy also comes into play to ensure the continuation of Apple's role in technology. They probably could have already come up with what is now the iPad2 a year ago when they introduced the iPad1 but if they did, they won't capitalize with the revenue of the first-gen iPad.

It's all business, folks

Again, the Xoom has an inferior screen and touch response--both things critical for the enjoyment of this type of device. Sure, I would love to see things like larger storage space, more RAM, an SD reader, better cameras, and higher res. But if the screen is going to look washed out and the UI is sluggish and choppy, then what is the point?

i agree about the screen having used the Xoom for a good amount of time yesterday, but i didn't find the overall experience of the os sluggish at all actually. i think Motorola made a bad decision not putting more importance to the display tho. i'm more curious to see how the Asus Transformer will be, as this one will have an IPS panel and a base price of $399.
