Pardon the threadjack (lol-jack?), but this oldie-but-goodie seems an appropriate response... :)

Thank you Thank you

While some people have touched on what is causing this issue, I want to make it very clear what is going on. I just figured this out.

Bravo! That was it! It was the ethernet on my MacBook Pro broadcasting to my iMac. Maybe it was because I have it set to automatically see my public folder on my MacBook Pro when I'm home so the iMac sees it as a server?

I was getting so worries, reset the time capsule and changing the password.

Have a good day.

At Last

I have been looking for bloody years for an answer, Thanks for this, finally answered and nothing to worry about. :p

Solution!

Hi,
Instead of blocking the sidebar from seeing all servers (which would block Mac ones in addition to blocking the PCs), I think I've found a solution that works.

I used to have the same problem at my house (random PC servers showing up when there are no PCs in the house) and I thought someone was hacking onto my network.

To solve the issue:
1. Go to System Preferences
2. Click on the Sharing icon under Internet & Wireless
3. Decheck Printer Sharing

I've found that by dechecking Printer Sharing, the strange PC server never shows up.

Hope this helps!

I came here to say (almost) that, but you beat me to it. :) In my case, it really is a printer: my Canon printer on the other side of the house.

If the icon were of a printer, even with the generic name "Canon Printer," I'd be fine. But the ugly PC icon with the name "000000xx9f1x" doesn't cut it, and apparently we can't rename it to something more useful.

Thanks for the tip on removing just the printers.
