What is wrong with Apple right now? Where are the new products?

I'm sitting here, money in my hands, waiting for the M5 Pro/Max since October. Waiting for a new HomePod Mini, a new Apple TV and new AirTags for longer.

Have they become allergic to earning money? RAM prices are not going to get any better. Who knows what madness will come out of the White House next.

I'd really like to spend some money on Apple before the economy collapses or we have another world war and both seem more likely than Apple releasing ANYTHING at the moment. Sorry, but I've been buying exclusively Apple products for 25 years now and I've never been this frustrated with the company.

I'm in the same boat. I'm happy with the M5 Pro being delayed, as it means my M4 Pro MBP remains current, longer, but that's very much specific to me. I'm also waiting for an AirTag, Apple TV, and 2 HomePod Minis. And waiting, and waiting...

If there were no rumors that would be one thing, but they rumors have all agreed that they are coming soon. Only, soon has become 6 months at this point. I don't get it either.

It isn’t Apple’s fault that people spread rumors.

Last I recall it wasn't Apple who announced that new products would come "soon".
You're on MacRUMORS, so if you take all those rumors to heart and expect that Apple will "just follow", well ... here we are

Here's the thing: When Apple announces availability of an MacBook Pro with the M5 Pro chip, I know that I can buy one and it will work, rock-solid, with every single piece of software I've got. I can run it 24/7 and it will be stable. It won't crash on me.

Apple is an execution powerhouse. If it takes them an extra month or three or six to get it perfect, I'll wait, because that reliability is what I'm paying for, and so are you.

If you can wait you don't need a new computer. Which means your current computer is still doing everything you need it to. Because if it weren't you'd buy an M4 Pro or Max and be happy with it. Why are you not happy with what you have? If my M1 Max dies today I'll go out and buy anything that is not slower so that I can continue working. That's what needing a new computer means.

Why should they? So that people can piss and moan when they miss a date because they need a little more time to get it right? No matter how you phrase "guidance", some are going to take it as gospel and complain when it doesn't happen quite that way.

Better to simply not say anything, IMO.

But what if I lose the key to my M1 tank? It's imperative that I can get a new AirTag to track it. And in a war zone, I don't know that the current version will have enough power to push through frequency jamming, but I think that the new one with a uranium powered battery cell will be able to!

It's been 14 months since the M4 Pro/Max came out.

I had to wait 4 years for the 2018 Mini to replace the rubbish 2014 model.

By the time my 2014 MBP was ripe for replacement, I was still waiting for them to make a model with a decent keyboard, that wasn't an oven. And then the rumours of AS started coming in...

Agreed. If anyone is tempted to do so, the lawyers will shut it down. they wont make the same mistake twice. witness the one recent time they promised a roadmap, Apple Intelligence. Ouch. Just like you said.

Is there something the M5, M4 Pro/Max, or M3 Ultra can’t do for you? If you’ve been waiting for almost four months, and the answer to the previous question is no, it doesn’t sound like you need M5 Pro/Max, no offense.

You can wait however long you want to, but I personally buy tools when I need them. There’s always going to be a new thing around the corner, you’re not missing out or deceived. I’ve heard from several folks who enjoyed their new Intel machines shortly before Apple Silicon was announced, I’d say that’s a bigger deal than M4 to M5. (And if you’re on M1 Pro like me, M2, etc, M4 is still better.)

It would be exciting to see new products, however. Especially for sake of lowering previous model prices.

Maybe for you "That's what needing a new computer means."

But others live different worlds. For folks like me, I need the higher end but the cost of a loaded MBP or Studio is a significant hit to my finances. So I need to optimize my long term high performance purchase, and purchase timing helps to optimize.

Most of the time Macs do not "dies today," but rather they slowly lose relative performance for years as apps and the OS become more demanding over time. So most of the time yes, we can wait to optimize. Your statement that "If you can wait you don't need a new computer" is usually false.

Inadequate RAM is often (especially for anyone dealing with imagery) the driver that slowly makes Mac performance deteriorate. My 16 GB RAM (maximum available RAM at the time) 2016 MBP had been impacting my workflow for years before I finally bought an M2 MBP with maximum available RAM.

The 2016 MBP still works fine if I only have one or two apps open. I thought I would use it part time, but the M2 is so very much better I never use the older box.

I won't blame you have this kind of thought.

Because even for websites like macrumours who making up and spreading rumours, are asking and blaming readers and Apple where are rumoured products.
