Actually, I used to work for a regional cellular phone carrier, so I got a new phone - whatever the latest and greatest was - every few months. ;) This isn't a new thing for me.

Okay but not everyone works for a phone carrier. I couldnt know, besides, thats a whole other thing. You get them for free (or discounted).

Ok, but just because someone is able to afford a new iPhone every year doesn't mean they have no respect for money. That's my point.

I prefer no case but face it, phones these days are expensive and fragile. So I do use a case.

I got 3 different ones for the my new black 5. A black bumper, a case with a black edge a clear back, and a thin black all over (sides and back) cover.

I'm trying each now and will stick with the one I like the best. I prefer it to be thin as possible and to show off as much as the iPhones design as possible while still providing protection.

Thin and colorful is my case philosophy. (as well as cruelty free - e.g. no leather)

I don't feel I need a case but I like the personalization that a case can add.

I don't use leather either, though I miss the look of the really gorgeous leather flip and book style cases that I had back in the Palm Pilot days (pre-gan)

I don't know, most of the leather cases I've seen are boring black/brown. I've seen some red cases that I wish were non-leather but its no big loss.

What's the point of having such a well-designed phone if you're just going to cover it up with a plastic, bulky case?

Naked all the way. If I drop it, I can get it replaced for $50 or whatever (AppleCare+) if it's really messed up - otherwise, it's just a damn phone, and I'll replace it in a year anyway, when the 5S comes out.

I didn't buy the phone for the design, rather the functionality.

And no AppleCare+ is available here in the UK, your lucky to have that option.

Wallet case

I had a Twelve South bookbook case for my iPhone 4 and LOVED IT. I like a wallet case that I can slip my iPhone in and out of. I've heard other cases wear out when you take the iPhone out and put it back in a lot. I think a lot of cases are too bulky so the bookbook served as a wallet when I needed it to be a wallet and then it was easy to "go naked" when I was at home.

I hear they're coming out with a case for the iPhone 5 soon. If anyone hears of anything similar to that, let me know.

While I love the look of naked, I know for me personally I need a case because I drop my phone too often. Now, they aren't huge drastic drops but I do want some protection. I also like a case because it personalizes your phone and gives it some of your personality. I love having colors and different cases I can switch out.

I think Otterboxes and Lifeproofs are way too bulky and I hate that attached screen protector, so I do like a slimmer case. I just would rather have some protection from falls (I feel like it is the way to go, even with Applecare+).

A phone that I'm hoping to use for 2-3 years (or how ever long Apple offers iOS support for the 4S) needs to be:

- Durable and able to survive my clumsiness
- Comfortable to hold. I'm not crazy about the hard corners and edges on the 4S
- A pretty color

I have a teal blue and black Candyshell. It is a bit on the thick side, but very comfortable to hold and it has survived more drops than I care to admit.

This is a shining example !

I like it. Your mentality is having an iPhone for a longer time period than 1 year. Finally, someone steps forward.

I know for a fact that I will have my ip5 for 3+ years.

with my ip4 i had two cases: an Apple bumper and a Speck Fitted.

the Apple bumper was great for everyday use. nice fit and finish, looked great on the iPhone, nice grip, basic protection, but still left much of the original design uncovered. i was able to pick it up very lightly used from a macrumors member for $10 or $15 - much better than the apple price!

i got the Speck Fitted free with the Apple case program and it was a great case for when i wanted more protection. i was very happy with it. it still felt great in the hand, very solid, no dirt got in, etc.

and from time to time i just used the phone without any case because it was a beautiful design.

now with my 5, i plan on finding a similar case setup, but i'm still torn on which ones.
no official bumper so i am looking at what is out there, but haven't found the ideal bumper yet.
i'm thinking i'll go with a Switcheasy Tone for my heavier duty case. i have been happy with Switcheasy products in the past (iPod touch case) and the Tone looks pretty solid.
Speck doesn't offer a Fitted for the 5, but they have the Fabshell (burton model looks ok) which is similar.

i did pick up a Griffin Reveal, but i don't think i'll keep it. it isn't as open as a bumper and it isn't as tough as more solid case like the Tone or Fabshell. so basically it doesn't really meet either of my needs.

also, i did order a Bodyguardz back skin this time around as well. i used one back with my iPod touch because the shiny back scratched so easily. i haven't completely decided if i'll put it on yet or not. i didn't use one with my ip4 and the glass never got scratched.

I have a monoprice bumper and incipio feather coming for my iphone 5. I like minimal cases but like to keep my phone in good condition because I usually sell every year. Also, with it getting thinner, the bulk the case adds matters less and less.

I had a bumper on my iPhone 4. It felt like it did nothing. I got an otter box but that felt like a car phone. Ballistic to me is a compromise between a strong case and reasonable size.

No case:

-Cheaper
-Get to see the beautiful design
-Doesn't add any bulk
-Can't actually remember ever having dropped a phone, apart from once when I had one of those old nokia bricks and threw it at a wall to see if it would break. It didn't :p

And the main reason:
-Can't be bothered to actually look for/buy one!

EDIT: I will be using those ipod socks for my 5 when I get it, just because it cost so much and I want to keep it perfect as long as I can. Plus I get all the benefits of no case whilst actually using it. But after the first ding/scratch ill just go naked.

Pouch Case!

I always go with pouch style cases such as...

http://www.senacases.com/apple/iphone-5-cases/elega/

Reason being that you are most likely going to scratch you phone when it's in your pocket with keys, in Girlfriends purse, or when i put it down on a rough surface, This case prevents scratches from all of these. It will also protect from a drop when its in the case. Pouch cases allow you to use the phone in its bare form and still offer protection.

Note: My iPhone 4 doesn't have a single scratch.

For me it's function over form. My case needs to have a nice "grippy" feel for me to be comfortable with it. Having that secure feeling that this is not going to slip out of my hand is priority one.

Thin cases. Want a sleek case that will be able to prevent scratches and sleek enough to still show off the phone's sexiness :)

I have mine in an iPhone Necklass I ordered online at:
www.iPhone-Lanyard.com

I have a 4S still & I've used it almost one year & I'm very happy to have a "naked" iPhone. They don't make it for the 5 as of yet. My wife & brother just got the 5's. My brother likes OtterBox & my wife had a Mophie but they didn't make it for the 5 as of yet. She plans on getting the Mophie as soon as it is released.

I looked at Zapp for screen protection but they have too many choices & I was uncertain which, if any, to purchase. I was concerned it may be too thick & lessen the experience. I went to an iFixit shop & they didn't have the clear screen protectors yet. The Apple store didn't have the clear screen protectors either. In fact, no one seems to have any accessories for the 5 yet!
