Edit: I am male and all my iPhones have been black.

I am female, I had the black 3GS but went with the white iphone 4S , I am now getting the white iphone 5 on launch day.

I love the black, don't get me wrong, it's so classy looking, but the white just appeals to me more, because it "pops" and the fact that the black is so hard to clean! it shows up every single fingerprint and that annoys me , scratches on the white are not as visible

Funny that not even the majority of women prefer a white phone (you couldn't give my wife a white phone). I agree that white just doesn't look sleek and washes out screen colors. That's why white TVs are such a bad idea.

I'm female & had a white 3GS and a black 4 but only because the white ones weren't available (fire-pissed about that, BTW). Was deeply envious of everyone I saw with the white 4 once they did launch, so I got a white 4S. I just got a white iPad 3 and can't wait to get my white iP5.
