  • Nothing on the desktop (at all, not even hard drives)
  • Empty Trash at all times, something gets deleted - the Trash gets emptied.
  • 2D Dock, customised to have no background
  • No colours in the menubar
  • Only active "useful" apps open
  • Only the very most useful apps in dock - currently 11 items
  • Any really ugly icons get changed (sorry adium, but that duck is just...)
  • Spaces do specific tasks - Space 1 media, Space 2 Firefox, Space 3 Adium, iCal & Mail, Space 4 Office & Appescript, Space 5 Finder & Preview, Space 6 µtorrent, GIMP or other rarely used apps.
  • iTunes must have all correct artwork, song names, limited to 17 genres
  • MacBook and iPhone/iPod must be kept polished up nicely with iKlear
  • When typing I try and always have the correct capitalisation of Apple products.
  • Would choose an Apple produced accessory for my MacBook over a non Apple product
  • Universally have to have the same wallpaper, it just looks damn good (and the "expansion" means it works on dual monitors too)
  • My MacBook sleeps next to me and on weekdays wakes me up with music and the news

It really annoys me that in OSX you can't create a properly unified theme, due to the way iCal works, as I really want my PC and my mac to have the same appearance (see attached shots - attached due to not wanting to have a horizontal scroll bar of death...) I'd really like to make my MacBooks desktop match the PC one.

-i only have things open or selected when they are in use
-i use hot corners religiously:D
-everything has a space assigned
-the dock has to be the same width as the screen hinge
-filenames never have spaces
-the trash is ALWAYS empty
-the only things allowed on the desktop are drives/ removable media
-i always clear the download list after it completes
-if i'm doing anything full-screen, that can be the only app running(unless it's a download)
-i run macjanitor every day at noon
-i change my desktop background every couple of days

there's probably more

do i win?

I try to have as little apps running together as possible because I dislike too many dots next to the icons in Dock.

I quit programs with non-blue dock icons as soon as possible so they wouldn't ruin the nice look.

I never place an icon on the task bar unless it's black and transparent only.

If I have nothing better to do, I exposé my windows loads of times and watch it catch up to the lag. I also use the different system animations while holding SHIFT (e.g. minimize, exposé, tab pulling in Safari, stacks) to see them in beautiful slow motion.

I guess there's something else that I can't recall or haven't even noticed myself yet. :p

Not sure if this counts as Mac OCD, but on my iPod touch whenever I am done using safari, I always open a blank window and close out my old one so that the "untitled" screen is up. That way I feel I can "start fresh" when surfing the next time

I have these little things that I have to do when I'm on my computer. Two main ones that I can think of are...

-Whenever I leave the computer I have to click the desktop so it says "Finder" in the menu bar. I can't stand having everything closed but still have the last open window's application name in the menu bar.

-I can't have a file selected and not in use. Like If I drag a file from the desktop into iTunes, once I drop it into iTunes it is still selected on the desktop (this for me is the worse thing about leopard), so I have to click on the desktop and then click anywhere on the desktop again for it to become "un-selected".

Any of you guys have some "Mac OCD's"?

Yes, those two are part of my OCD's as well! :D

Also, my Mighty Mouse HAS to be centered on my Mousepad. :p

keep my desktop spotless. i always repair permissions just to make sure everything is working (most of the time there are no permissions to repair :() oragnize my dock by color ex: itunes safari ichat mail and microsoft word go on the left, whereas hulu, appzapper, dreamweaver, and other green apps go on the right.

Just found this aging thread. SO funny!

So glad I'm not the only one like this!

Didn't bother reading all because it gets repetitive but I laughed a lot, and share many of these OCD tendencies when using my macs.

Did have to laugh at some, which seem ridiculous even to me. . . .

"The cursor must be in the middle of the screen before sleep"
"The calculator must be selected before leaving dashboard"
"Sleep MUST be activated with the remote"

Hehe heehehe. . .

You've got it! Those are the exact ones I would list.

-I also do the Finder thing
-My desktop must also always be clean. No icons whatsoever.
-Folders must be logically labelled
-All UB apps must be trimmed and all languages except english removed
-Repair permissions after every new software update/installation
-Safari's window has to be the same width as my dock (even this is weird to me but i keep doing it)

Oh and my mac has to be cleaned once/twice every other week. I hate macs that are grubby/filthy which is why i refrain from using other people's computers.
