All my computers/hard drives have Fraggle rock names:

Wembley: main mac hard drive
Gobo: windows partition
Sprocket: windows laptop
Goober: external drive #1
Mokey: external drive #2
Cotterpin Doozer: usb flash drive

All my iPods have Life Aquatic names:

In the System Preferences, go to the Sharing Panel. The Mac's name is displayed there. Overtype with whatever you want. Although the name change is instant, I find that it's best to reboot afterwards to make sure all network related services are aware of the change.

And don't bother changing your user account name. Way too much hassle.
