If you don't mind contributing to the poll, I'd like to see what you do for a living so I'd be able to gauge the level of risk you take with your iPhone. Just curious.

I'm a Security Manager for a casino. I don't like cases, but due to the nature of my work, I use minimalist style cases.

Electrical Engineer. I use a bumper on my phone (or a slim case, depending on my mood).

Physicist. I use a skin. I may get an otterbox (defender), but just for those days when I'm out of my routine where it may be risky for my phone.

Physician. I tend to use the most featherweight, minimalist case I can find, mainly to prevent scratches from putting the phone down on tables and other surfaces. But I do like to go naked when I can :)

I work from home, for a bank, and the greatest risk my phone faces during an average workday is my cat knocking it off of my desk onto a carpeted floor. That said, I still use cases all of the time because a) I want my phone to remain as nice as it was the day I got it as long as I'm using it, and b) a pristine phone will sell for a hell of a lot more than one that has scratches or dings.

Retired college engineering professor - using a Sena leather sleeve/pouch for my pristine 4S.

Marine Science Technician in the US Coast Guard reporting in. I use a case.

Optometric physician, photographer, mountain biker...

A cheap, thin case at minimum, that I replace every few weeks. Also, I keep more ziplock bags in my car than a drug dealer to place my iPhone within to protect from sweat, mud, water, etc.

Government Analyst

Case is necessary because of the subway and the phone is always hidden in my pocket because of subway.

House painter. I am rough as hell on my phone so I use an Incase slider. I have owned every iPhone and used a slider on all of em and my phone stays in awesome shape every time.
