How thin should Apple make the iPad 3 and beyond?

  • I wouldn't mind making it a bit thicker (like original iPad) to add superior features

Apple makes thinner products, customers bitch about being to thin. Apple makes think products, customers bitch about being think. You got the idea.

I must admit, I don't ever recall seeing anyone on these forums bitch about iMacs in past years, complaining about their thickness and wishing they were thinner or less user serviceable.

I recall complaints. MANY. About yellow screens, about custom cables deliberately made so it's was hard to swap drives. Dust behind the glass, iMacs running HOT, noise from cooling fans spinning up.

But no. Can't recall the iMac's thickness ever being an issue here.

Well, having my iPad mini Retina, I think it's 'thinness' is perfectly fine? I would rather they kept the thickness the same to keep a decent battery life.
As for phones, I think my iPhone 4 I had was perfectly fine in thickness, but the iMac was perfectly fine as it was, they did not need to remove the DVD drive at all and make it thinner, even worst is the way they made it non user upgradable, will be interesting to see how the retina version turns out no?

I can't remember the last time I used a CD.

Seriously I'd suggest seeing a doctor if your memory if that bad.
I can remember things back to when I was very young.

I think that statement usually means "I can't remember WHEN the last time I used a CD was." Was it five months ago? six? seven? A year? Two years?

I can see the benefits of having a thinner device. I found the iPad 2 too heavy for example. However there comes a point when things get too thin and it impacts on comfort, performance and durability.

Correct. The Air IMO is as thin as the tablet needs to get. Or as you mentioned, you start giving up other things.

I think the thinness is good. Who wants to carry around bulky devices?

At some point, thin equals delicate. It can bend, screen can crack due to bending. Battery is thinner also.

Cannot have everything. If there was an iPad T (thick) that was more solid, 40% more battery life, better camera lens, it would sell in droves. If all we get are the usual boring incremental updates, then yes, to a point, thinner and lighter are good. At a point the obsession with thinness halts the device
growth path.
