what i do, is what i first wake up, before i get out of bed, i start my watch. i sit there and count for a full minute. i don't count for 10 seconds, and then multiple the result by 6. none of that. i don't use a HR monitor or anything.

Boring. Just feel it briefly, you should be able to get a rough idea within a few beats, then just decide if it's regular and feels normal. Job done and you've saved 50 seconds.

Can I repeat: the original poster is by definition experiencing tachycardia but this is not a diagnosis!

yeah, it might be boring, but in someone's case where this is a big deal, it's better to do it for the whole minute to get a more accurate reading

that's way too high. are you stressed out at all? anxiety? could be a number of things. get it checked out. even if you have to pay.

I never thought I snored, until I had a sleep study done. Boy was I loud :p and its not always a family history either. No one in my family has a history of any sleep disorders.

what does snoring have to do with your heart rate?

What is your resting heart rate?

I just looked at the 'My heart rate...' thread and figured I would ask the question.

My resting heart rate is usually just under 60bpm.

No smoking, no drinking, and I get at 2-3 hours aerobic exercise at work 5 days a week.

*As a side question, does anyone else notice that their heart beats faster while inhaling and slower while exhaling?

i'm between 50 and 60. i exercise quite a bit, don't smoke and rarely drink so hopefully, i'm being good to me heart :)

Mine is kinda high for some reason. Around 80. Everything else is fine, I've been trying to keep in shape, lose more weight, etc. Even when I was thin, it was high. Docs say it's fine, just the way it is. Shoots up a bit when exercising too, but stays pretty steady. It's weird, it's like I'm always in alert mode.

76bpm - I'm out of training though - it's normally around 65.

Inhaling is active, you are using you diaphragm and intercostal muscles to increase the volume of your thoracic cavity (the inside of your chest) which creates a negative pressure and causes air to enter the lungs. When you exhale you relax so those muscles don't require extra oxygen and your heart can beat a bit slower. It's not normally that noticeable though.

According to my heart rate monitor, my HR is about 50 when I'm sitting around.

I notice it is about a 3 beat difference between the two for me while resting and about 5 while exercising.

Mine too. It's called high metabolism. My leg is always going too. :)

My leg is always going too. :)
Right. Your "leg". ;)

Mine ramps up pretty quickly when I exercise, but will usually drop quickly as well. For example, I ran 9 miles on Saturday and wrapped it up at about 160bpm. Within 2 minutes it was at 120bpm. Within 10-15 more minutes it was at 90bpm.

Not sure if that means anything or not, though.

At the moment it's quite high what with some health stuff.

It's normally quite slow. very slow after a walk.

Used to have high metabolism, but an increase in fatty and high carb foods, combined with an increasingly sedentary lifestyle has changed that. My body does always feel like it's going though, and my mind races, but I'm always tired too. Lack of sleep doesn't help, but it's hard to actually stop myself, no matter how much I try to relax. Part of it is because apparently I'm something called "tactile defensive". I could seem really calm to the casual observer, but my heart and mind are going full speed. Ready for anything, like a squirrel at the park. It's weird. Luckily I'm kinda lazy, so it all evens out. :p It's really strange because my parents are always moving around and busy doing things, but I don't like to be like unless I have to. They go with it, I fight against it. A mad attempt to calm down and do nothing as much as possible. Easy for me to get in shape when I do work out though. Especially after I had that surgery that makes you breathe better. I didn't used to be able to breathe very well, and sometimes, would just stop and not even realize it.

Believe it or not though, before I started to get a little doughy a few years ago I was actually almost as buff as you are.

Between 50 and 60 - due to my regular physical activity (running, soccer, working out, etc.) I'm sure my healthy lifestyle helps as well (or at least doesn't hurt!) Balanced diet and no smoking or anything harmful like that.

Mine hovers around 80-85. A little high I suppose, but I'm not worried about it.

For a person your age, you probably should. Do you have a high salt diet? Exercise enough? You should probably see a doctor now before you get older like me and it starts to cause real problems. I don't want to scare you, it's probably not too dangerous, but unless you have a specific cause, that seems a little high.
