Mine is about 74; no smoking or drinking, healthy weight, though I could probably use more exercise.

For a person your age, you probably should.
I don't know that I'd agree. HR is naturally higher in younger folks, and 80 wouldn't be considered abnormally high for most folks anyway. Perhaps check with your doctor the next time you visit, but I wouldn't rush in to get checked.

Of course, I'm no doctor, so accept medical advice from strangers on the web with a grain of salt. Unless that salt results in a higher heart rate.

For a person your age, you probably should. Do you have a high salt diet? Exercise enough? You should probably see a doctor now before you get older like me and it starts to cause real problems. I don't want to scare you, it's probably not too dangerous, but unless you have a specific cause, that seems a little high.

I know I could get more excercise then I do, but other then that I don't think I'm doing anything wrong.

Kids, yeah, but a teenager? Seems a little high unless there's another factor. Not horribly high mind you, again not wanting to panic anyone, but it seems just a little high. Mine does go up to around 80 when I'm doing anything, even while sitting or laying down, but drops significantly when I'm meditating (or trying to). It's one of the few times it does. I was always told that was really high. Looking at the results of the poll, I guess it's not as bad as I thought.

Edit: I guess around 85 is ok for a 12 year old, and even up to a hundred for an adult, honestly I forget how old Cassie said she was.

Not quite at rest as I've just come in from walking the dog and am now drinking caffiene, and just measured it as 62. Not bad for a 35 year old :)

I woke up from a little nap about ten minutes ago (so I suppose it really is a resting' heart rate) and the Jaffa ticker is going at a steady 54bpm.

By the way, I'm a non-smoking 32-year old who doesn't get a massive amount of exercise and who had a pint while watching the telly earlier, if that has any bearing.

the last time i checked my true resting heart rate, it was 38. i was a little surprised, so i checked it again, and it was 40. i counted for the whole minute.

i am a college runner, and i also play other sports for fun, and lift weights. no smoking of course

EDIT: and i forgot to mention that a low heart rate runs in my family

Probably not, but it couldn't hurt to ask next time you're at the doctor. If your blood pressure is up too, could be stress or too much salt in your diet or something. It's probably not dangerous, just a little higher than it probably should be. We could all stand to exercise a little more here apparently, especially in the US it seems, as I look at most of those in other countries hovering around 50-60.

Athletes generally have much lower heart rates. That's about where Lance Armstrong was I believe. My Dad had some heart scares, so he's really into fitness now. Maybe that's why I think 80 seems high. He used to smoke though, and that really messed up his system.

65... I don't drink or smoke, and get a ridiculous amount of exercise (on my school's crew team), but just have a fairly high HR/blood pressure naturally. A nice little hereditary gift from my mom I believe

Just checked and mine was at a steady 80bpm. I'm 34 now, when I was younger it was usually about 100bpm resting. Doc said it was fine... I've had it as low as 60 resting before, but I've slacked off and don't run as much anymore. Gotta get back into it...

Checked mine this morning when I first woke up; it was around 62 (vs. the 74 I previously reported when I checked in the middle of the day).

My blood pressure is so low that I have a near undetectable pulse, I can't take my own pulse unless I work myself up in which case it's not resting

Probably low.

Mine was between 58-64.

26 yrs old. No smoking, no drinking (well barely). We eat really well now too. I barely exercise though (well unless you class looking after kids lol). I was expecting mine to be high.

... By the way, walking doesn't do anything good for you body -- ...
This is 100% wrong and seriously bad advice. An "old wives tale" in fact.

All studies indicate that the reverse of this is actually true. That running/jogging adds virtually nothing to the same health benefit you get from walking.

To the OP: some bad news no one will tell you ...

The lower your resting heart rate the longer you will live (on average), so you might not live to be a 100 years old or anything.
