Let's figure this out!

I bought my 3G iPhone on launch day and I just called and confirmed that I am eligible for the $199/$299 pricing on July 12, 2009.

I've been using the Unlimited minutes plan since I bought it. Don't know if that has anything to with it.

When are you eligible and what is your rate plan?

I purchased my iPhone 3G on launch day and have been using it on the main phone on a FamilyTalk 550 plan. My upgrade eligibility date is July 12, 2009.

@Sky Blue: You can find it by logging into your AT&T Mobility account online or visiting an AT&T Corporate Retail store.

January 1, 2010.
My sister has the original iPhone and plans on upgrading to the iPhone 3G S (she already pre-ordered) and I'm just going to take her old iPhone and use it until my eligibility date and then buy myself a new iPhone on that date for the subsidized (spelling?) price. I can't stand the phone I have now and can't use it until January!

I'll just be waiting for AT&T's contract with Apple to end. At that point I may start looking into getting another phone. 7 in 10 chance it will not be with AT&T and 9 in 10 chance it won't be an iPhone.

Both Apple and AT&T could have handled it differently, but f**k the customer.

Me too, got mine on July 11, 2008 and I can upgrade July 12 2009. The big question is, did you guys also have the original iphone? Some say that that has something to do with the upgrade dates as well, I can't figure out how but maybe it does? FWIW I am on a family plan and spend a pretty penny every month with ATT.

Bought the 3G on launch day. First iPhone and new to AT&T.

I have the basic 450 minute plan, + $5.00 texting plan. Premier discount from work.

My upgrade date is 12/12/2009

Early upgrade prices:

299 3G 8GB
399 3GS 16GB
499 3GS 32GB

I still don't understand how AT&T is figuring this out...

I had the Original iPhone and then upgraded last july on launch day to the 3G.

AT&T says I'm eligible for the upgrade on 12/12/2009.

I don't understand why its not 7/12/09 like most people who bought the 3G last year...

Have had 3 iPhones on our 5 line family plan and only 2 now. All still have the original upgrade dates 09/2008, 12/2008, and 08/2010. The main line is usually eligible for an upgrade every 6-12 months and the others 12-18. Sometimes they move the upgrade date up but they haven't yet. I'm going on my 4th iPhone soon and my upgrade date is still 08/2010. I couldn't get the 399 price on my line so I used our extra line to get it for that price. 4/5 of our lines were eligible for the 299/399/499 prices.

Upgraded from non-iPhone to 3G on 7/11/08

Today, AT&T told me that because I used an early-upgrade on 7/11/08 to get the 3G, my only choices for getting a 3GS are: 1) pay no-commitment price now, or 2) pay the subsidized price ($199/$299) on or after 12/12/09.

I guess I'll be watin' until 12/12/09 to get the 3GS.

im no expert, but i think the date depends on how much you have spent on monthly charges. i have your same situation, but am on a 99/mo voice plan and a 64.95/mo business domestic+intl data plan. my upgrade date is 7/12/2009

this makes sense if you think about it. apple and att subsidized the 3g phone for the purposes of making their investment back over the course of your monthly payments. people who were on a basic plan would take longer to "pay off" the subsidized investment than people who were paying much more every month, who would pay it off sooner.

anyway, that's my guess.

Yes, I had the original iPhone.

I'm confused. Based on the image attached, am I eligible for the $199/$299 after 7/12/09, or are the rates list the price I'll pay before or after that date?

I think you are right. It depends somewhat on how much your monthly bill is and how long you go without being late. I think it's mostly the main line that is affected though.

Yeah, but where

After you login at wireless.att.com, click on the tab of the phone number you want to check, and then look under the "PHONE/DEVICE" section and there will be a link that says "Check Upgrade Options" and that will tell you the dates.

Those are the rates you would pay if you bought before 7/12/09. were to buy after 7/12/09, you would received the fully subsidized rate.

Mine isn't until the end of next March. I'm going to see what I can do to work something out but I might just have to bite the bullet and just pay the amount I'm supposed to if I can't figure something out.
