Apple isn't letting other companies innovate on 30" displays?

If you like the Apple displays, buy them. If you don't, then don't buy them.

Apple doesn't have a monopoly on large displays. If they're not innovating on a schedule that meets your approval, buy one somewhere else. Trust me, Apple is OK with that.

I don't buy Apple monitors because they lack buttons and inputs.

You folks seem to forget that Apple depends on panel manufacturers. There just haven't been any real improvements to the 30" panel technology lately, LED backlight is certainly not it. Thus LG, Samsung etc haven't deemed it necessary to make new 30" panels.

Right now the only real flaw of the 30" ACD is the lack of inputs and OSD. It could really use a mini-Displayport connector and it would be easier to calibrate if it had an OSD.

At the moment only NEC and Dell seem to have the inputs, OSD and scaler in their displays. Dell goes a bit overboard with the connections (including rather useless S-Video, composite etc connections) actually and their firmware is a bit **** because there is a rather long lag when switching resolutions or inputs. Even Dell's newest 27" display (same panel as the 27" iMac I believe) has these issues.

You may try to justify it, but there is no justification for keeping an outdated screen in the product line. Some people and companies paid the premium for these overpriced and dated displays, anyway. At least they made iMacs look like good deals.

Even if :apple: house the 27" iMac display in a 24" ACD style, I'd give it a tick of approval and a purchase. Anywhere between 27" and 32" and it wouldn't make much difference if it was 16:9 or 16:10.

Just please :apple: have a matte option. Shiney McGlare ain't a friend of mine.
