What Kind of Poster Are You?

  • Conversational - I read the whole thread and engage everyone involved

  • Oblivious - I just read the OP and hit the "post reply" button, I don't care what others have said

Mostly Conversational though I usually try to fit the OP's topic in somewhere... sometimes it gets a bit difficult to work the topic back into the conversation.

I'm probably on plenty of Ignore lists as I'm an unapologetic Apple Enthusiast and Microsoft Critic.
Many of the Microsoft Enthusiasts here would call me an ANNOYING Poster. That's OK, I feel sorry for them all alone in The Microsoft Store with nothing better to do than bash Apple in a Mac-specific forum.

I wish I had more time to reply to replies. Conversations and debates get started and I lose track and leave threads unattended and unanswered.
Difficulty completing projects (or discussions) is one of my faults as I get excited about new ones easily..

I typically only post if I feel I have something relevant to add to the conversation
If the question has already been answered, I don't feel the need to answer it again
If they poster wants opinions, I may add to a suggestion already made to support it

PS jessica. won't see this post, so tell her what I said :D

That looks like it. Sometimes I just post once in a thread, sometimes more. Sometimes I answer the OP, other times I correct someone, etc.

I don't always read the entire thread, though. If it's short, no problem, but more than 3 pages and you can forget about it ;) Gotta catch these while they're still fresh.

I've noticed in my interactions here at MacRumors Forums that posters tend to be of two types.

The Conversational Poster

The Oblivious and Ignorant Poster

Mostly a Conversational poster when the thread is not too long; reading up 10 pages is not always easy. Depend on the topic.

I ignore all but 10 members so I guess you can consider me the oblivious poster.
Hmm, doesn't really help to build a community; that's would be more for a closed circle in Google+; but a personal decision to be accepted.

I don't really post much unless I have something that is worth adding to a particular discussion.

Conversational. I guess I've had my low points, but I *try* to read just about every post so not to rehash another post.

And I like correcting people.

EDIT: almost forgot

I've noticed in my interactions here at MacRumors Forums that posters tend to be of two types.

The Conversational Poster:
This poster seeks to engage in the topic as raised by the OP, but takes into account other posters that have joined the discussion. The focus is on the coversation as a whole and respect is given to the entire thread. This, of course, means that one actually reads the whole thread so as not to miss important information. This way the duplication of information can be avoided as the poster is educated about what exactly has transpired in the conversation.

The Oblivious and Ignorant Poster:
This poster is oblivious and ignorant of anything beyond the OP. They do not care to see what has actually occurred in the conversation, they just post their thoughts solely in relation to the OP. It doesn't matter to them if they have missed key information along the way, it's just a matter of point counter point with the OP.

I'm not saying either method is better than the other and I'm certainly guilty of both posting styles. But, as a whole, what kind of poster are you?

+1

Contrarian.

Otherwise, I don't feel an impetus to post because the subject material has been adequately covered.

Well, there are more than two types of posters, aren't there? What about the Newbies? They only ask questions. Some say thank you for answers, some don't. Some never post again in the thread they started.
