There appears do be yet another SSD lottery in the most recently released Macs and I would imagine in the 128 GB and 256 GB, the drives are Toshiba but what what about 512 GB and upward? Samsung?

I remember with the first iMac 5k, I had to get a 512 to be assured of Samsung.

I have the 2TB SSD option and its showing as APPLE SSD AP2048M here & its really noisy. All SSDs I had before were silent, this one is always crackling. Im really disappointed with it, it sounds like a noisy Hard Disk Drive (HDD)..

That really is disappointing. I was so looking forward to Apple releasing a new Mac mini and now this happens. Also there seems to be issues from a few people with regards to the T2 chip and crashing. This is not the case with everyone though. I remember there being some issues with the 2011 Mac mini at first when it was released in July of that year and I ended up purchasing one in October and it lasted me five years. I still have it in my closet. I am wondering if perhaps I should hold off on purchasing the new Mac mini for a little while in case there are some problems on the early round of machines.

Edit: Thank you to everyone who replied. I was going to go with a 512 GB SSD and that would likely get me a Samsung SSD. I don't know if there would be any audible coil whine though.

I have no crashing issues or problems with the T2 chip here till now. Everything is working fine & fast. It outperforms my MacPro 6core variant i had before from 2013 by far! Im happy with everything, except the SSD... atleast my 2tb SSD variant is super fast... but well noisy too... Its complete silent while surfing on the web etc, but when the SSD starts to work im getting a constant noisy whining. I wish i could use my Macbook Pro 2017 SSD in there. If you wanna hear the whining, here you go ->
thats the exact same noise i get from my working MacMini SSD.

That’s strange. I only have 256GB but mine is absolutely silent..

I have 512GB and it's dead silent, has been since i first started it.

They all seem to be: "APPLE SSD APxxxxM", has anyone actually seen anything else in 2018 Macs?

I don't think you'll find anything BUT that...
