Brave Archer Trilogy (probably a mistake to watch this in one day, but fun.)

The Kid with the Golden Arm (reluctantly watched in English because of mom who proceeded to bow out mid way through.)

Supiria - cannot wait for Synapse's blu ray. A beautiful psychedelic evil fairy tale.

The Sect (La Setta) - okay this needs a proper release somewhere. The bare bones crap PAL dvd does not do this crazy film justice. It's my favorite horror by Argento protege Michele Soavi and I think the unfortunate use of Rolling Stones lyrics (I loathe that band. Always heralded bad mojo from the time I was little.) are the reason why this still hasn't seen a legitimate release somewhere. A Lovecraftian Satanic sect want Kelly Curtis to birth the anti christ and they will go through every nasty trick in the grimore to make sure that happens. Herbert Lom's role as the cult leader is the only misstep in an otherwise unnerving, increasingly crazy horror film with a whacked and wonderful twist ending. Very, very gory and weird and perfect. It kicks Dellamorte Dellamore back into the grave...

Watched Suspiria not too long ago for the very first time. Although I liked it (more than Inferno, whose underwater scene is still beautifully haunting - if only the whole movie could hold up to that), I must say that I'm not that much a fan of the colorization, although I fully understand it, dunno, prefer his more down-to-earth ones like Deep Red, Tenebrae or Il gatto a nove code.

Started two Shaw brother pieces but had to interrupt unfortunately, will tell you about them once finished. Having holidays in two weeks and as usual, work is piling up before and has to be finished regardless..

Saw Conan The Barbarian for the very first time yesterday (only half way in too :/), quite funny and really entertaining. Loving the lack of almost any conversation - nothing but images and music. And Arnie. ;) Not a fan of his movies, but this and the (especially) the first Terminator are great, although this is more in the campy camp while the original Terminator is one of my favorite movies ever.

I watched the feature on disc 1 of the Criterion Collection edition of The War Room last night. The film is a docu about the 1992 Clinton campaign. So strange to see those men and women as they were almost 25 years ago. Bill Clinton looked like a kid who just came off some high school softball field in the opening scenes.

I had seen this film before (but not recently) and had about the same reaction as when I first saw it: well, that’s one way to look at it. See, if you are interested in politics and lived through any given campaign, then in your brain you have an entire and very personalized history of that season.

People say they remember what they were doing when JFK was killed, or where they were when particular terrorist attacks have taken place? Well, so do political junkies, but they also remember exactly where they were and what they were wearing, eating, drinking or otherwise doing as election returns came in.

So the film was interesting but maybe Primary Colors was a better guess at parallels of some behind-scenes gigs in that campaign, not least because in the documentary, some of the “actors” definitely were, and are, world class hams.

How the knowledge that you’re being filmed affects what you’re doing cannot be measured. But it’s the elephant in the editing room of any docu where the participants have been aware they’re being filmed.

Bottom line, The War Room is watchable and entertaining if you’re really into politics, but you’re not going to learn a whole lot you don’t already know. It’s inside baseball but... you’re still in the bleachers. And yet it's a true enough record of how spin-doctoring became the seemingly indispensable tool for political campaigns in the latter part of the 20th century. On that score, for people who remember campaigns of the 50s and 60s, the 1992 campaign was a real stunner.

Avatar.

Enjoyable.

You inspired me to watch it again! :):) A one of a kind movie, leading edge technology creating a fantastic photorealistic world, and a good story to boot. The fidelity of illusional realism is breathtaking.

Lovely description!

I particularly enjoyed the voice of the female blue heroine/sidekick to the hero.

The movie as a whole seems to have a thrill to it, a kind of magic. In that sense, it reminds me of The Sound of Music.

What movie have you seen and more importantly was it any good? :)

Watched Shutter Island, a psychological thriller. It just did not click for me. Without giving the story away, it took a turn I did not expect, which is not necessarily bad, but the execution was below my expectations.

On the other hand we just finished up the Lord of the Rings trilogy for the umpteenth time. You don't see epics like this very often. :)

If you ever wondered how they made 6' tall actors hobbit size, besides using short doubles for long shots, this is another method- forced perspective.

Ouch on the shutter island... I LOVE that movie. I am into the crazy plot twists and lately have been a huge fan of leo.

I was just talking this am about the LOTR Trilogy with my daughters. I wonder if they would be up for watching them.

I'll second Sound of Music! :) It's interesting that in the original release of Avatar, after mastering flight, Jake says "I was a stone cold aerial hunter", yet the statement was based on the hunting scene that ended up on the cutting room floor until the Extended Re-release. :)

I had read LOTR three times before the movies came out so I was all ready invested. I wonder how young people today receive this story without the benefit (in most cases I assume) of reading the books?

This movie is good. One of Arnie's best if you ask me. The first Terminator movie, to me, is his best movie. If you like the music, I highly recommend purchasing the score, one of my favorites.

Your absolutely right. Also about the score, having it on my wishlist for some years now. ;)

Especially this scene always gets me. The way he looks, no eyebrows..perfectly frigthening. He was born for that one movie.

You can see his acting skill and confidence grow (as meager as the skill might be argued) from the original Terminator to Predator, then Terminator 2, to IMO his best acting effort in True Lies at the hands of an expert director who squeezed every ounce of available talent out of this actor. :)

I think Arnold did a great job in the new Terminator movie that is out now, Genisys. He was subtle and provided great comedic relief.

True Lies is great fun. There was a good dynamic between them.

On my list to see. If I have a fear, it's milking the story. What is your perception in this regard?

At first I thought it was just another reboot, but it's not that simple as the new story draws heavily on the history of the old story. So, there is some continuity in that regard. I thought it was very fun and definitely entertaining. Was it completely new, no? It's still the same basic story with just a few twists.

Funny, for me it's exactly the other way around. Conan or Terminator = he perfectly impersonated one dimensional characters which were one dimensional because they were supposed to be that way, and which made sense story-wise. Everything after that went downhill fast imo. :) (You said it yourself: acting effort at best)

I do believe that captures the film quite well. Saw it last night and loved it.

I liked how Rudd was quite knowledgeable in his areas of expertise (cracking the safe), he quickly got lost when the scientists started to speak. It made his character that much more believable.

From an action standpoint, I found Predator and True Lies to be quite acceptable, but no debate from me about acting skills. :D

Ant Man was pretty good and funny. Coolest part is where he's subatomic. (think string theory) :)

Just saw Ant-Man (2015), 92% Rotten Tomatoes Viewer positive rating. I give it a thumbs up! Among other things enjoyed the humor. :) One very cool effect was a flashback to 1989 and they either did an incredible makeup job on Michael Douglass's close-ups or there was some CGI hanky panky going on! The Answer. ;)

Yeah, I loved some of the FX concepts in the movie. Like the fact that Scott's costume was all practical effects, Darren Cross' Yellowjackets was mostly CGI.

And in the 1989 bit at the beginning, there was a mix of digital and practical effects among the 4 actors.

I'm glad Wright left the project to be honest, after hearing how Janet a was handled in the early scripts
(think what happened to the investor in the bathroom and the test lamb)
, and his complete lack of having Cassie in the movie. I think Peyton Reed really did a fantastic job on such short notice, I'm hoping he gets to do the sequel.

I could not find either name in the credits.

Regarding the event in the bathroom, I was disturbed by that visual and subsequent disposal of a human being.
