Thanks for your perspective. I'm not going to pre-judge Guy Ritchie, but I hated his Sherlock Holmes treatment, absolutely hated it.

Oh, that might be a reason to wait for dvd or netflix. Its very much a Guy Ritchie film. Styled like SH and Kingsmen: Secret Service or whatever that movie was called (I liked that one, too).

The Green Mile (1999)- Tremendous story. Forget about The Shining for a moment, horror stories, King's bread and butter. This and Shawshank Redemption are Stephen King masterpieces, this especially because of the spiritual, brutal, mystical aspect of the story. Shawshank, because ...if you have not seen it, I can't tell you. ;)

Of all the gin joints, in all the towns, in all the world, she walks into mine.

TCM is airing Casablanca (1942) right now.
Set in Casablanca, Morocco during the early days of World War II: An American expatriate meets a former lover, with unforeseen complications.

I really enjoyed The Green Mile as well. And The Shawshank Redemption. I was a little surprised the The Green Mile was Writer/Director, Frank Darabont's second film after Shawshank simply because of the setting. But that's where the similarities end. They are two completely different movies. And it's great Tom Hanks is in TGM because a scheduling issue prevented him from being in Shawshank.

I like TH but I'm very pleased he was not in Shawshank as either the warden, the guard, or even the prisoner, because it would have been TH in prison excess. ;) And because of his role in TGM it would have diminished the other very different story. Yes, this is opinion, but the 3 actors who portrayed those character could not have been replaced and outperformed by TH IMO especially Tim Robins who was perfection in his role.

The Fall (2006) - 7.5

Didn't disappoint when it comes to eye candy. One of the most beautiful films you may ever see. Some frames would make an excellent postcard or landscape wallpaper. Story and characters weren't engaging. Alot of indie films I've seen tend to have alot of dead air. No music to move it. No montage. When the story is not being told and when the scene is in the hospital, The Fall isn't very interesting. When they go back to the story, it is interesting to look at but not interesting to follow. Beautiful moving pictures isn't enough if I don't care about the characters, story, and dialogue. I still prefer Hero and Amelié for visuals with an actual story to follow. But if you own a large UHD TV, The Fall would make a perfect demo next to Samsara. I might need to see The Fall again to appreciate it more but it like a non-CGI The Aviator to me. Beautiful to look at. Uninteresting characters and story.

The Big Lebowski - 8.5/10

After my first few viewings, I thought it was ok but I wanted to return the DVD. After 10+ viewings, it grew on me. After 20+, I find it amazing and used to watch this almost every night. So many quotable lines. The dream sequences are awesome. I am not a fan of John Goodman but his Walter steals it here along with Julianne Moore whom I adore. And I loved John Turturro in Quiz Show, so Jesus rocks. A comedy with amazing choreography and some bizarre but brilliant scenes. Anytime Walter interacts with The Dude, it becomes comic gold. Any movie that can start a religion must be great. High replay value, extremely quotable, nice ambiance, and one of the best movies to chillax to.

"You see what happens, Larry? You see what happens when you **** a stranger in the ***?"

"****, Donnie!"

But my favorite line -
"I had a rough night and I hate the ***** Eagles, man."

1 hr 14 min - 1 hr 26 min mark, brilliant and hilarious 12 minutes of film starting with that cool Jackie Treehorn intro, Gutterballs dream sequence, The Dude's arrest with a Ralphs value card as his only ID (LOL), and him getting kicked out a taxi cab for hating The Eagles. Right up there with some of the best scenes like "Funny Guy" from Goodfellas and "The Sicilian" scene in True Romance.

Last night I watched Wet Hot American Summer. Overall, a terrible, raunchy film. Not all the jokes worked, and I had to stop myself saying "but, wait a minute..." I grew up loving comedies like Caddyshack and Meatballs. This one didn't even try to make sense. I loved it.

And now there's a TV series on Netflix too.

resigned up for netflix again, so im watching alot of movies.

last nite i saw::

The Cobbler (comedy) - pretty funny, fun movie. ive always like adam sandler movies plus movies based in nyc

Chef (comedy) - very funny, good movie. i have a soft spot for Sophia Vergara

Night Crawler (action, thiller) - real good, dark movie. it has a dark ending, which i love movies like that.

It is one of the "bestest" movies ever made. I like it very much.

I have seen probably 40 of the Top 50 films ranked on IMDb. Some I love like The Shawshank Redemption, The Godfather I & II, Pulp Fiction, and Goodfellas.

Some I thought were great those first few viewings but I wouldn't say I love them like City of God and The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly. And some I just don't care for like Inception and Interstellar.

There is alot of movies that people love that I hate. And vice-versa.

After seeing The Fall, lately I want to get into those epic but strange adventures.

Terry Gilliam's Imagination Trilogy -
Time Bandits
Brazil
The Adventures of Baron Munchausen

I remember seeing Munchausen on cable as a kid. I remember being weird but so epic. I am craving for some escapism instead of another mindless franchise sequel that I grow tired very easily.

The most recent movie I saw last night is Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory (1971). Very charming since I loved the book as a kid. Only 3rd time I've seen it and the first time in 10 years. I know Dahl hated it as it wasn't like his story. But hey, I still enjoyed it more than the Tim Burton one. I just find it more believable Gene Wilder is Willy Wonka than Johnny Depp. Musical songs are pretty nice too with the '71. The 2005 one lacked any charm for me. Charlie & The Chocolate Factory was the beginning decline for Depp for me. Crap like the Pirate of the Caribbean sequels, Alice In Wonderland, The Tourist, and The Lone Ranger after that...

I jump from different movie to movie. I rewatched some of Braveheart and the fight scenes look realistic after 20 years. I used to prefer Gladiator but now feel that is overrated while Braveheart is rated about right.

But I finally finished watching The Artist and The Aviator yesterday.

The Artist is ok. Like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon overratedness. It does feel very unique for a 2011 Best Picture winner but it isn't as enjoyable as say The Kid or The Gold Rush. And The Aviator was something I enjoyed watching back then but now feel the story and characters is too bland. I will keep both though. The Aviator is quite beautifully shot. Give Scorsese a $100M budget and CGI and that's how good it will look. For a more naturally beautiful Scorsese film - Kundun! I am thinking of watching Samsara (2001), the Christy Chung one, just thinking about beautiful scenery in Asia.

I am going to watch Once Upon A Time In America tonight. Never seen it. Supposedly like The Godfather of the 1980's. I also have Dr. Strangelove and A Clockwork Orange to watch again later. I enjoyed the former but the latter is too vulgar for me and it drags at the end with gratuitous nudity. Shocking for 1971 like Midnight Cowboy was for 1969. But dated now. If I want eroticism, just give me Aya Sugimoto in the remake of Flower & Snake 1 & 2 from 2004-2005. There is raping in it too. Or Jan Dara or uncut Caligula for some more orgies from Penthouse porn stars. My fav monkey spank film is still Maléna (1999). Modernized from the 1970's/1980's kid's wet dream stuff. I say Europeans and the Chinese/Japanese/Koreans can do the best erotic films. Colour Blossoms is really awful though but uniquely shot. But most HK films have terrific acting even if it was just softcore fun surpassing anything you see from late-night Skinamax. Asians do it the best followed by Euros for sheer eroticism, live action or animated (hentai).

Sex & Zen II (1996) - With Shu-Qi, Loletta Lee, and it's just hilarious. Not the funniest like say Ancient Chinese Whorehouse that can be seen on YouTube, but funny like Part 1 with Amy Yip.

Overrated -
Scarface (1983)

I say about all the great movies ranked in IMDb, AFI, or majority of surveys or in magazines, I might see 60-80% of the titles on any list and only enjoy 20%. For every five great films ranked, I might only enjoy one of them. Alot of them like downright boring like Citizen Kane.

Last night I watched The Drop. It was just ok.

Actually the acting was pretty darn good. My disappointment was probably due to wanting something with a bit more lively action...or gratuitous nudity.
